Full Time Worker

Ok, I am new to this site but used to sobriety and relapse. I approached my GP about getting help last September for another home detox and it’s taking ages. I am what I call a ‘functioning alcoholic’ I have a good, responsible job, work at full capacity from 7.45 to 5.30 but the first thing I do when I walk in my front door is drink til I blackout. I message people & send inappropriate pictures of myself, just for attention. I have finally been assigned a key worker but won’t see them until the 25th of January, why 2 weeks? In the meantime I feel like this is going to be my last chance to drink, so drinking more than normal. What I need post detox is to meet other AF workers. I am not reàlly keen on AA, I want something for full time workers. I want a weekend group meeting provided by our local service providers, I would love to set something up even and eventually contribute and potentially help run the group. Do you work, do you have any ideas for support groups for full time workers x

I go to AA and run two business and work weekends I manage meetings in evenings and sometimes weekends when I’m asked to talk at a meeting best of luck be safe

Thanks for reading my post Ray - i cannot find any groups apart from AA that meet in the evenings or weekends - are you sober now, how long?

I just want to say that I’m also a full time worker with a “functional” problem. I’ve been clean since the 1/1/2017 and I’m also looking for an alternative to AA. I know there are a lot of alternative organizations out there that help. Here’s a list I found that helped.. I’m with Kaiser California insurance, so they offer some support and I’ll talk it over with my doctor today.

Anyway, best of luck to you!

In my area most of the AA meetings are in the evening. I’m only 5 days sober, but I go after work also.

5 days of positive change - well done

I was the guy that could sit down day after day and drink a case of beer. Anytime of the day. Breakfast, lunch or dinner lol. I can’t believe how different my life is in just 5 days. I’m the person I dreamt about being. A long way to go, but on track. Good luck to you @wannabe.

I’ve been working full-time and a full time student for one year now. ( sober for 16 months) I’ve been apart of AA with service commitments, sponsorship and events. If you want to be apart of something you have to give up your will to control what that is. There’s so many branches to AA that you won’t need to worry about reinventing the wheel if you give it a genuine chance. I attend young people meetings, retired professionals meetings, students for recovery. I have a friend who attends lawyer AA meetings. You’ll find you’re niche, but if you want sobriety you’re best bet is in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous

I’m a full-time worker (senior engineer) and full-time mom. AA’s worked for me, and I have very little spare time. The meetings I’ve been to always start on time and end on time and are an hour long (except one that is an hour and 15 minutes).

How you doing? Got through the weekend Ok?

Doing good. On day 9. Amazing how 9 days can change your life. How are you getting along?

I am on the same boat now with 13 day sober. Weekends seem to be the hardest for me. Making breakfast and not having a drink in my hand just doesn’t feel right, Daily struggles

Hey, I can see you are doing brilliantly, I feel a bit like a fraud. I am not yet sober. I am hoping for a home detox. I have my appt with the local group who co-ordinate this tomorrow and another appt on Friday with their support group. I have been making a scrap book to follow my journey. I have motivational quotes in it, lists of things I can do when bored and the going gets tough, simple things like playing ball with my dog or getting milk from the shop, googling jokes. I will be achieve long term sobriety this time. And I want you to always be ahead of me. Keep going, its a much better life ahead x

Yeah I’m staying on track. Today is day 11. Lord knows this isn’t my first time making it to day 11, so I hope I can hang on. I hope to hear soon that you have started your journey. It’s not gonna be easy and you are gonna not feel well for a few days, but the end goal is worth it. Good luck to you.

This will be my 4th voyage. I have done 3 stints of 6 months, but the silly ’ maybe I can do this’ voice came into my head each time and I go back on it, little by little until it’s a big problem again. I just want to get started on my detox but have been told I need medical assistance because of potential side effects. Therefore I am waiting on the system rather than myself.

Hi. I am on day 15 and feeling pretty good. I work alot too and the hardest times for me are when I’m driving to and from work. About three hours a day. I discovered a couple of podcasts that deal specifically with recovery and they have been an amazing help since i started this new sober journey. Check out "That sober guy " and “Recovery elevator”. And remember, we can do this! Best wishes!
