Gardening In Recovery

Any urban/indoor gardeners up in here? I live in a dense neighborhood in a high rise and though there are some community garden plots around, they are highly sought after and have a long long wait list. Would love to grow some little things like tomatoes, herbs, etc. What else?! Want to do this with my daughter as she will be in a farm to table gardening learning thingy starting in fall as a special project for her school. We have Lots of sunlight! Any advice or ideas welcome!

Just gorgeous!

If you have a balcony you can plant herbs galore in planters, tomatoes in pots and there are upside down hanging planters for small spaces, trellises. Google vegetable garden balcony there’s lots of info. It’s such a great feeling to have a greenspace to care for.

My babyhollyhock didn’t arrive at TS :scream:…so I give it another try. Meet Mina

Repotted my tomato plants as they didn’t have enough space in the egg boxes. Trying to avoid buying new stuff (especially plastic) where possible so reused some tins, made a few drainage holes in the bottom. Hopefully that will give them a boost and help them catch up with the ones in the plastic pots.

I hadn’t thought of that! Ingenious! I’m assuming they’ll be ok in them. I’ll have to ask someone.
We are still using Plastic that we’ve had for years.

I confess that I didn’t come up with the idea, I looked up plant pot alternatives (or something) and it came up. I guess they will get quite warm but I’m assuming if something would be happy in a greenhouse then they should be ok. We will see!

I couldn’t find any more plastic pots, hence looking for alternatives. I think Lady has probably used them as toys over the years and destroyed them

Yeah, ours are kept in a corner by the shed. Every now and then I have to collect them from around the garden. The wind, or dog.:grinning:

Thank you, I’m quite blessed! I have so many more pictures too, I just never get around to posting them all. Mostly veggie/herb gardens are left to do now and then I’m ready for summer to arrive! Lol.

I FINALLY got my veggies planted. Most from seed so nothing to take a picture of yet. But please say a little prayer that the bunnies don’t eat my little seedlings once they come up this year. Last year very little survived to full plant…and even less was actually harvested. But the local bunnies were nice and fat!!

Ok guys. It’s war.

Notice all the dirt kicking around? I did this am and upon closer inspection, mommas not happy with whatever visitor I had last night on my porch.

They pretty much all look similar. Luckily colton helped me find 6 plants on the ground now, still have several missing. Time to move the birdfeeder! Never had that happen before but the bird feeder is new this year so hopefully that will stop it.
