Gardening In Recovery

Yes that’s my balcony, I love it, it’s my own private little retreat, I just wish we had a better climate to enjoy it rather than this grey cloud world which seems to constantly exist at the moment.

Anemone from my late garden due to torrential rains. The photo is untouched.

Thanks! If i get to actually work with a professional, I think I may make my gardens larger. Everyone is going to smaller more manicured gardens and well — that just feels so fake I guess to me.

My climbing/teasing Georgias look about ready to explode… Someone else’s pict of the type for reference.

These are stunning goat. You are very talented.

I think I have overcrowded my pots, you live and learn, going to separate them.

Is there a best time to do this?

Everyone has such pretty garden pictures… Ours is a work in progress! It’s something I’ve put off thinking about because it’s such a big job and it seemed so overwhelming. But since we got the chicks (now nearly chickens) we thought now is the time, because once they are out there it might be harder to do the work. And it needs doing.

We didn’t really have a lawn, it was so lumpy and uneven and the dandelions were taking over. We did want to level it but we know a gardener and he said it will be very hard work - it is really uneven and the access isn’t great. Flattening it and laying some turf will be enough to make a massive difference.

So this is where we’re up to, pretty much ready to be rotavated. The bf has done most of the heavy lifting and digging to get to this point but I’ve helped enough to be aching :joy:

Fences will be sorted later, and there is loads more to be done before it’s nice, but it’s a start!

Good luck with this, it will be satisfying once it’s done. I really can’t wait for a house with a garden.

It will be so worth it. Being sober definitely helps be in a frame of mind to get this kind of thing done. Or at least make a start. I’m realising more and more that it doesn’t all have to be perfect straight away, it’s enough to be working on it. Life in general, not just the garden!

Your balcony looks lovely, you’ve done such a good job with it. I bet your garden will be amazing when you get one .

My wildflower garden which WAS about to be blooms full of lupine, poppy, sweet pea, shasta daises, desert bluebell, California poppy…much more was tended by my landladys gardener while we both were away for a few hours. Fuck!
