Going to a show tonight and want to check in

So tomorrow will be 30 days sober and I am feeling very good about myself. With that being said I am going to go to Henry Rollins soken word show tonight. This will be my first time going to an event that has booze and people. I am feeling confident and positive that I will not have a problem with that. I am going alone so if I have to leave I can just go. Unfortunately, I won’t know how its gonna go tell I’m in the moment. I feel strong and positive about staying sober. Thanks for all the support!

If it’s too much temptation, just leave. Just walk out. Walk away and feel proud.

You can do it! This weekend I went to my first event without drinking while people were drinking around me and it was nice- realized I could enjoy everything sober and it was a great feeling. Good luck

The show was awsome and I only thought about drinking right before I entered the venue. I quicky thoughy of how ridiculous I was for even thinking that told my self hell no. I didnt even get a 21 plus wrist band for drinking. Show was great and I walked away feeling proud of myself and know I can handle challenges. Next one up is good ol thanksgiving. Thanks for all the support!! Hope everyone is doing pretty good today.

Good job!Its hard getting through stuff like that.did you say spoken word?

Ya. Henry Rollins , singet from bands such as Black Flag and what not. He stands on stage for 2 hours talking at a rapid speed never once stoping for water or saying, um or ah. Good stuff… it wasnt as hard as I thought it would be, mostly because yhe crowd wasnt drinkinh much and Henry himself dosnt drink. Very good enviroment!! Thanks

Thats awesome, I think spoken word is beautiful.
Ya its always easier when other people arent really drinking, Ive noticed that not everyone drinks the way that I do or as often, that was an eye opener in sobriety

I have noticed that as well. For the last 10 years I worked in Liquor stores and the las6r 3 years I was the buyer, so my life was completely consumed with booze from customers to the reps. Everyone i my life was driking too much and it just was normal to me. Thankfully I have gotten out and I see much more clearly now how a lot of people dont dri k like that. Its an awsome realization!!

Totally. Depending on who you surround yourself with it can be like night and day when it comes to how people drink and most people have 1 or a few at the most and stop.I was never able to just stop.
Another thing I realized is I started to enjoy drinking and convinced myself it tastes good…when it actually doesnt. Alot of non alcoholics have made comments about how they dont like the taste.

Good luck and let us know how it went. If it gets too tough, leave. Your sobriety is more important than one night.

The show was last night and it went terrific. The show was awsome and even better I remember it today!! I feel proud and excited instead of depressed and ashamed. As I am experiencing these things sober it is so much better. Thanks for the support!

Congratulations man, and honestly the moment I’ve walked away from drinking involved events in the past without drinking I have felt so elevated and superhuman and that’s the best feeling ever, and you have that to look forward. We’ll done man x
