So I’m 12 days sober today. Many of you know that since like many others I’ve been on here all the time since I quit . Believe me, this app/forum has been very helpful indeed. So I’ve had a fairly easy go of it as I compare my experience to what many of you are sharing as your own. I’m not working right now so I’ve been at home with my loving wife and have been able to spend so much time with my 5 year old which was lacking before I quit the Nazi assholes I worked for on November 10th. I know things will not always be this easy, but I feel I have a strong grip on my mission of self improvement and spiritual cleansing.
As I sit here with this strong sense of accomplishment and a feeling of happiness, I feel I need to experience a meeting. I’ve read most of the comments on this and it seems going can only broaden my horizons and enlighten me further as I take this journey day by day. I’ll check back in (of course I will… lol), and let y’all know how it goes.
@alpine_1975 how did your meeting go? If you’ve never been, it’s okay to shop around (like you do churches) and find a group you’re comfortable with. You might have to go to the same group for awhile to get a feel for it. My group got so big they had to split up so now I go to the one closest to me.
@alpine_1975 good to hear mate! Btw if you don’t like AA there is another program called SMART recovery; it’s something I found very helpful since I struggled with the “higher power aspect” of AA. Either way they both help, so best of luck to ya.
Try one closer. I started with the closest one I could find then started shopping around. Now I have a few that I like, so if one time doesn’t work at one place, I have a back up that I’m familiar with. Good luck searching!
Makes me glad u choose a meeting @alpine_1975 . Hope you find yourself a good group . And keep comming back .because it works Merry christmas , i will go to a meeting in 4 hours u see its christmas day .
I always went to multiple meetings at different locations. I had what is called my home group(The meeting I got the most out of and people I liked best) But different meetings teach you so much more. After awhile your home group becomes repetitive and you hear the same stories. Sobriety is a toolbox and the more tools you have for that toolbox the easier it is to fix things
