Today im 10 days sober from alcohol, cocaine and codeine. Iv had quite bad headaches for the past 2 days…could this be withdrawal? Not experienced any other physical withdrawals as such…just ones in my mind, anxiety and irritability.
Yes! 100% these are all symptoms of withdrawal, especially for alcohol
How long do the headaches typically last? I dont really want to take any prescription pills for them if i can help it. Just worried they seem to be getting worse, especially past 2/3 nights.
For me they lasted for a few days, i would drink a ton of water and take my sleeping pill for sleep. Your body needs to replenish itself because it is so dehydrated!
Thank you. …I have been keeping a bottle 1 of water by my side at all times and i seem to be eating a lot more sugary stuff…not sure if thats contributing to the headaches too
Rather than sugary stuff, have some salty stuff like maybe some chips or some cooked vegetable with some salt if youre feeling healthy haha!
Youre welcome! This will pass! Give your body some time and you will feel better in a couple days!
Welcome! It could well be, especially as you are quitting several things at the same time (respect). Could you talk to a doctor?
Thanks for ur reply. I dont feel the need for the doctor at the moment but may well seek help if it continues. Ill give it another week and see how i get on…hopefully it will pass!
Yes i think i need to stay clear of the sugar feel like iv just swapped to a sugar habit instead now !
Have you consulted a medical professional about this?
No iv not as yet. Going to see how i get on the next week or 2. I may get a pack of herbal remedy sleeping tablets as it seems to be a lot worse on a night time and my sleep is shocking!
Generally withdrawal symptoms for alcohol peak in the first week, most often in the first few days. I don’t know as much about withdrawals for the other two substances. Headaches can come from so many different things, it can be hard to tell. If they start to concern you or you develop other symptoms that do, doesn’t hurt to call a doctor.
Anxiety and irritability are super common, not just in withdrawal phase but lingering afterwards. It just takes time for your mind to learn how to handle things and find a new chemical balance. You might be relieved to know that it’s also super common to lean on the sugar after coming off alcohol. Generally it’s just a phase, nothing to worry yourself over too much. Of course, a healthy level of sugar intake is best - just take all the changes as you are ready for them, the focus is on staying sober.
Thank you. I did wonder about my sugar craving! I think the anxiety feels worse as i usually just block it out with substances, its always lingered anyway, and i suppose its better than the hangover anxiety i was experiencing before. My thoughts and feelings in general are already looking more positive, just in the space of 11 days!
