Heartburn a withdrawal symptom?

When my drinking would get bad I would end up with acid reflux…a sign that an ulcer was developing. But it was never heartburn. More like burping, feeling full and sore throat.

Since quitting 17 days ago I’ve been experiencing regular heartburn. Really uncomfortable burning.

Is this a withdrawal symptom? I haven’t found it listed on website.

Acid reflux, aka heartburn, can mean an ulcer or the beginning of one, but not always. Alcohol irritates and can erode the inner lining of the stomach and esophagus, but also acts as a sedative. One reason I could be suffering from heartburn, start drinking and it would go away until the next day or middle of the night more likely. Since I quit, my acid reflux has improved a lot. Certain foods still make it act up a bit. Perhaps your stomach is still raw from the alcohol abuse and is letting you know. I’m betting it will get better with time. Ranitidine pills are harmless and give instant relief. Walmart sells a brand called Equate that I swear by. 3 times cheaper than Zantac!

Thanks. I knew alcohol was why I had reflux before but it never was a burning sensation until now. I guess I’ll just have to see if it gets better in time.
