I struggled for a long time to get through day 1. Some things that helped me get there:
- meetings (Resources for our recovery)
- readings (same thread has excellent readings: Resources for our recovery)
- daily phone calls with other people in recovery, to check in, and especially to one person who is my recovery mentor - calls to share where I’m at and where I’m struggling (voicemails are ok, the point is a daily call)
- weekly phone calls with my recovery sponsor / recovery mentor
- simple, measurable, healthy physical and mental steps: for me, at the moment, those are (A) having vegetables and protein every day at breakfast (I reduced my breakfast carbs so I’m only having one slice of bread; the rest of the breakfast is egg whites scrambled with leftover vegetables from last night’s supper); (B) 20 minutes walking every day; (C) 10 minutes quiet sitting every day (I set a timer)
- therapy (I have a one hour session once every two weeks; we do the session virtually)
