If you don’t know what to do, immerse yourself in all things recovery and learn. This place is a goldmine of useful information. AA played an invaluable role in my recovery by teaching me how to live life sober. Podcasts, books, youtube videos, there’s so much out there. Do it all! Try anything different. Don’t stop until you find what works for you. If change is what you want, then things needs to change

Being desperate to change, man I can recall that feeling, the confusion and self hate. You’re in a good place to help you grow your sobriety.

Here’s a really good list of ways people here, particularly women, have stayed sober. Blessings on your house  as you begin your journey.

I’m newly sober and love it! This community was a big part of me getting my sober legs under me. I don’t have a lot of advice but let’s just get through today.

Whatever, today brings don’t pick up that first drink. If you make it through today and get your head to the pillow tonight sober. Then you win today, over the demon alcohol brain. Then you can get up tomorrow not freshly hangover (which will feel so much better) and do it again. Don’t worry about forever, just today!

You can do it!! You are not alone!

Like @Just_Laura said… immerse yourself in everything recovery. I’m sixty two days alcohol free. And when I first started and even up to today, I did AA zoom meetings daily and just hearing people and their stories really helped me. And boy did I cry when I shared. I hated being in that cycle of drinking and the hangovers and the being sick to my stomach all the time. The more days I get clean, the more I grow as a person because it’s not just a boat quitting the drink. It’s about changing our behaviors and reaching our full potential. Alcohol doesn’t help but it dampens who we are, it Encourages that demon to come out. Just for today, you don’t have to drink, just for today, you can have a calming, beautiful day. Keep coming back :orange_heart::orange_heart::orange_heart::orange_heart:

Welcome @scaredsmol , you have come across an amazing community of like minded and supportive folks.
I am far from seasoned in my sobriety, at just 300 days today. One thing I have found is that while I progressed and went through a couple small lapses of visiting the site, I noted that I missed the stories. I loved the reality of all that come here.

It’s very much a two way street. I love reading the stories of new folks that have finally realized they’ve had enough and draw energy from their need to be free. In return those new folks get to see how to live with this new found freedom and all the positives it brings from the many successful and caring folks here that stay engaged.

It’s not easy and definitely not always pretty, but one thing I assure there is always someone here ready to listen and be there when you need it most. We may not all have all the answers but collectively I think it’s pretty solid.

Read, write, share, engage… start new hobbies and drop them. Sleep, eat, rest, heal, but mostly keep coming back and being engaged… it truly is what helped me the most to begin and still reading and hearing folks shares keeps me going.

If you want this, and I mean really want this for you and a better future then I know you can and will make it. It’s all about how hard you wanna hold onto that life you’ve always wished for… it’s right there in front of you and you’ve made that first step… congratulations  :peace_symbol:

Thank you everyone for your kind replies. My mum had a word with me today about my drinking without knowing anything about me coming here or my intentions. I think that says a lot about where I am and how much I need to change. So i’m going to! I need some new hobbies.

I’m looking forward to my book arriving and I’ve downloaded an app to help me. There are no secular meetings near me so I’ve decided to attend online meetings if they work on my phone.

I’m scared of weak moments. I know 1 day at a time is the best thing to do but I can’t help worrying about the future.

Download the Everything AA app. On that app, you will find where it says online meeting finder. And there, it will show you all the meetings that are online. It will require you to download Zoom.
