Hey Matt! I actually was able to sleep last night as my son had care… but yes I did sleep like a log haha You have such a way with words Matt… just a beautifully written post. Thank you so much for your constant support. I always appreciate what you say. Your just so very insightful and really intune with urself and others. I have never thought about getting someone to write what I say. It would be something to look into! But yes for free… idk. I can maybe always record myself in sections and then over time put what I say into words. Idk lol. But thank u for that idea of a writer. Never even thought of that! Hope your doing well Matt! Hugs!
This I can relate to sooo much! And thank you for relating You always have such a way with words! I know that you also know about the difficulties and the pain that’d associated with a child having any sort of disability. I’m very blessed for recovery and grateful for the freedom and the new opportunities that recovery gives me each day. I am never going back to that old way of life. Love u lady
It is unusual, for sure - ghostwriting is usually paid - but it may be possible to find someone who will ghostwrite (write a book with your name as the author: “Dana ___ with [ghostwriter’s name]”) by reaching out to writing programs in your community.
There’s some ideas about that here:
It’s worth thinking of some ways this could benefit them. For example, if there was someone in a journalism program who wanted to do a field report on life as a worker in your profession, you could offer to have them shadow you a few days (insider material they could use for their report) and in exchange they agree to write a chapter or two of your book. There’s a lot that you have which is valuable - connections, experience, insight, access - it doesn’t have to be money.
Another thought:
Classes in non-fiction or creative non-fiction: contact the instructors / teachers / professors, and ask to speak with them about volunteering yourself as a subject for one of their students to interview for a course project.
For example, this course, “Write and Publish Your Nonfiction Book”, is set up perfectly for a student to begin speaking with you at the start of the course, and as the course progresses, your story (whichever of your stories you choose to do - there are definitely more than could be done in one course) would be their project: it would be the book they write for the course. The nonfiction writing student gets a rich, compelling set of experiences and events - your life experiences and events - which lend unique depth and strength to their writing. You, Dana, get a motivated writer who works their butt off to tell your story as well as possible.

If no instructor or contact info is listed on the links above, search around for the faculty or department “Contact Us” page (like the Faculty of Arts and/or the Department of English - if you go to their pages there’s usually a “Contact Us” link with names and phone numbers of people you can reach out to), and make a call or send an email asking who you could speak to about a collaboration on their non-fiction course(s).
Oh honey. Reading your post both broke my heart and made it swell with joy at the same time. I could clearly feel your pain and exhaustion. No wonder you responded to my post with such understanding. Our children are our weaknesses and our strength. The joy I felt came from your realization that you are indeed in a safe space here to share your deepest feelings. Everyone deserves a place to be open about things like this. I’m glad you trusted us. There is a reason you are his mother. I firmly believe that parents are chosen for different reasons. He obviously loves you and your love, strength and determination provides what he needs. Much love and respect for you.
I care about u lady. I really do. I can only understand from sort of an outsider point of view bcuz I have never experienced it personally. But I do know the feeling of having my entire world completely turned upside down in an instant due to cancer. And the fear and the worry and depression that goes along with it. All the what ifs and the unknows. But there truly is alot out there in the medical field for cancer. And everyone handles the treatments differently. My son never lost his hair for an example and I had to give him liquid chemo every 6 hours for 3 weeks then 1 week off for 1 year of treatment. There is alot out there and alot of knowledgeable doctors. You’ve beat alot of stuff in ur life my friend and this will be something else u beat Love u lots my recovery sister. Also… thank u so much for ur beautiful words about my boy. He drives me crazy some times lol like right now… he is trying to crawl all over me while I type this, panting like a dog lmao but I love him more than anything message me anytime u need a friend to chat to.
He’s adorable! What a sweet, infectious smile!
Awe thank you!!
