I had to get and stay sober for myself.
If you don’t get your marriage and family back, will you stay sober? If you do get your marriage and family back, will you then stop trying to stay sober?
I had to answer these questions for myself. After 60 or 90 days sober, my wife would still not let me in the house. So I went back to drinking, for 18 more years, and much more serious legal consequences. I do not recommend that path to anyone wanting to stay sober.
I did not have a happy positive outlook when I did get sober. But the grim prospect of staying sober was less painful to consider than the prospect of continuing to drink without getting the effect I absolutely needed. I got sober because it was the lesser of two evils. I also do not recommend that path to anyone else.
No matter your motivation, your desire to stay sober and the reasons for it can strengthen over time as you stay abstinent and grow your sobriety. So do what you need to in order to lay a sober head on your pillow tonight. And check out these threads for some help doing that.
Blessings on your house
as you begin your journey.
