I’ve wanted to get 100% sober for a long time now, and I think I’m finally ready to do it! So tired of weekend times being wasted because of being hungover or moody… I think there was a few fears tied to it to be honest. Will people even like sober me? Will I be able to handle stress and overstimulation without it? I’m neurodivergent as well, and I’m worried the RSD might be the thing to make me fall off the wagon.

However, I’ve decided to make 2025 my b\*tch. This was the first new years eve since I was 18(16 years 🫥) that I did not spend it drinking(not counting the year I had my child of course), and I’m feeling pretty good about it! I took a look at my finances and realized I was in denial about how much I was spending on alcohol every month…

I’ve incentivized myself to at least start with Dry January, with a tattoo as a reward. I’m also going to journal, continue therapy, and try to pick back up a hobby that I’ve neglected. Aside from meetings, what else would you recommend? What has worked for you?

Welcome to TS Betty 🙂. Those thoughts and feelings you’re having about not drinking are all normal. What worked for me was putting time towards sobriety every day. Podcasts, sobriety audio books, a bunch of time here at TS. Have a look around, best wishes

> There are so many helpful resources available to us on our sober journeys. I wanted to share this list for those who are interested in non traditional resources. Please note: I created this thread with alcohol recovery in mind and it is U.S. based as well. As a straight white past middle age woman (SassyRocks), it is based on what resonated and helped me in my journey. Over time, I have added in resources for some other addictions (found at the end of this post), but it is heavy with resources …

Service to outreach to other addicts! I’ve gained a lot of confidence from helping other people.

I do other things in my life too of course - camping, cooking, marriage counselling, communication and connection time with my wife - but the sobriety stuff (which includes my daily check-in times with my sponsor and some other daily calls), plus my recovery service work is what keeps me sober.
