You dont need luck but ill wish it to ya. Get a plan on how to move thru cravings. The first week is the hardest. Find community here and in the real world. Take it one day at a time.

Progress over perfection

Welcome to TS! :slightly_smiling_face: Well done for taking the first step. Avoid setting big challenges for yourself. With addiction, it’s much better to focus on each day as it comes, rather than jumping in and setting bigger goals. No harm in having long term goals, but focus on saying NO! just for today. The sober days will rack up soon enough.

This is a great community, with lovely people who have walked the same road as you. There is no judgement, just support. Make sure you have a plan in place if the addiction bites. It will help you to stay sober. There’s lots for you to read here, so get stuck in :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve Been drinking club soda each time I feel I need some boost, and my friends are actually supporting me even tho they drink A LOT they’ve been very supportive with me.

Thats great!

It helped me to write down why i wanted to quit and carry that list with me in case of emergencies.

Just remember the only way to win vs a craving is thru. They wont last forever and you’ll be stronger on the other side for not picking up

You can do this!

Glad you’re here! This is a great place to find resources and support to help combat addiction and help learn how to live life sober!

@Cjp and @Binx both made great points! Having a plan for when cravings inevitably strike and focusing on short term, achievable goals are great suggestions!

For me, writing out a pros and cons list for both staying sober and also for continuing use was a great tool. This was a helpful visualization for me to see how many negatives stack up against the positives.

Club soda or carbonated drinks are a great substitute for when the urge to drink hits! Also really glad to hear your friends are supportive despite their drinking! Finding a good support network was crucial for me when getting sober, this place is big part of that network!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need additional support, there are plenty of people here who are willing to listen and provide their experiences! You are not alone in this! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Yes brother, and on top of that, we are just a group of 5 inckuding me haha the newest one being in the group for the past 12 o 13 years and we’re only 29 all of us so, we trust each other, and I trust them they will not insist on me drinking if we go out, and I never needed alcohol to have fun I’m too much of an extrovert that helps me a lot, I know there’s people thinking they need that to really have fun, 95% of crazy “man” things I’ve done in my life were done actually sober :joy::joy::joy:

Sounds like a solid group of good friends! It’s great you don’t feel pressured by them to drink, and that you’re able to have fun while sober! I have always been an introvert so alcohol got me out of my shell, now that I’m sober I’m trying to be a little more extroverted on a daily basis so get me out of my comfort zone :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:
