Mad couple of years - a lot of it self inflicted. Been using alcohol as a way to calm for many years but now very frequent. So just looking around for ways to deal with it. Thought online support might be good.

Thanks buddy. Is best way to interact to just look for a topic that floats your boat and join in?
Welcome Stew! Great decision in seeking more support! Honestly, this forum, along with 12 step meetings (online or in person), helped me tremendously with getting clean and sober. This forum has been an integral part of my recovery this time around. Honestly… this is the best recovery forum out there lol
I’d say so , have a read around and just join in where you feel there loads of topics . Fun stuff and serious more helpful stuff .
I come on here in a morning and evening to checking and read around at what everyone’s been up to ect
It’s nice to speak with like minded people going through the same thing
Glad you’re here .

Good to know … not going to lie, I have no plan. Just know there’s a problem and thought I’d start somewhere!
This is the place to be dude. Has tremendously helped me and i spend more time here then on any other social media so im not doom scrolling.
This is my #1 tool for sobriety being accountable and checking in daily. Along with other things.
Being that your new and said looking for online support, id guess you joined through a browser on the talking sober website?
This works two ways. Via a smartphone app and via website.
The app is called " Sober time" atleast on the android app store. Has a great sober counter with milestones and heaps of cutomizable features and trackers and journal entries ect and integrates with talking sober website that you and others may be using without knowing its part of an app and vice versa others might be new using the app and not know its accessible via browser ( that i like for typing alot easier when on my pc)
Got myself a new MacBook as a bit of a distraction tactic and just started browsing. And here I am! Been using drink as a crutch for as long as I can remember tbh - but has got pretty bad in the last 2 years.
Yeah mate i feel you. Been/ in the same boat.
There are others here that just reading thier stories has really helped me. Its a great community and because of that im finally stacking some days and living.
Check out this thread. Infact i think its pinned as a great resource for new users already. Ive read this about 10 times.
Thanks mate … not sure what to do from this point so appreciate it! ![]()
Welcome to talking sober! I use the daily check-in thread and the gratitude thread most days. Join in when you’re ready! You’re in the right place ![]()
Glad your here and making yourself at home.
Easy access 24/7 support.
Welcome Stu - if you want to stop drinking, this can be a very helpful tool as a place of support and ideas for getting and staying sober.
Do you want to stop drinking? That’s a very plain question, but from your posts so far, honestly, I cannot tell. So maybe a good first action to dealing with your drinking is to state your intention and then determine what you are willing to do to follow through on it.
Welcome!
Have a good read around and keep in mind that posting under the influence is not allowed on the main forum. There’s a non-public opt in seeking help section for this case.
Thank you! Already feeling welcome ![]()
Day 0 no substance is is the most freeing day
Day 1 is the first full day, the most important
Cant get to day infinity without those 2 moments first and in that order
Fact
Infinity days sober is a long time
Advice
“You dont need to pick up, and if you feel like you do { need } to, that is exactly what addiction creats. And addiction is bad”
More advice
Dude i was the worst ( i was very bad )
Look at my past posts using the magnifying glass; i was out of it
1089 no alcohol or hard drugs
598 no form of pot, no cbd thc hemp , nothing ( my true sober date - sep 12 2024 )
729 100% nic free
I’ve always been able to go a few days without … but then a bad day or just a bit of boredom can start a binge session and that involves a LOT. I’m stuck in this cycle and really want to be in control again.
There is a process to i do to let go of bad things ( anything i want, i choose to let go of bad things so i stay sain)
Acknowledge - - (see the issue)
Accept - - (know that it is a issue with everything that comes with my own meaning of the word “issue”)
Let go - - (the easiest way to look at something that you cannot control - - no reason to even try to control what is impossible for youself to control;
if you can control it ,
always use love and your heart for personal well being
<> this process is quick or slow and maybe even unique for each issue. Its not easy always
As for me quitting crack and alcohol and even little innocent do no wrong weed, i am happyier and even better off without them and my friend this is a fact
You’ve done really well. I was doing well myself a couple of years back. Admitted I had a problem and really sorted myself out … but life got in the way and the urges to numb the chaos all stared again. Always been my unhealthy crutch. Well done though my mate - really isn’t easy and you should be proud ![]()
