Knowing today is going to be a challenge, but I can do it

Morning of day three, recognising and naming the patterns for me so I can better take control over cravings and change.

It’s going to be hard and already is because “over did” catching up on chores and things I wanted to do yesterday.. Guess why I haven’t got the basics done!? Alcohol!

I’m already tired at 6am, and no it’s not because I woke up croggy, but fibromyalgia pain and exhaustion, what I know is I’m easily irritated, sensory overload is constant and the pains are not gonna make anything easy. I have to accept I probably won’t get all the things done I want to.

Today’s check list:

  • Not go drink just because I have to go to town.
  • Not buy alcohol just because I’m in a shop.
  • Take as many sensory breaks as I need to avoid mental breakdowns
  • Nap if I can, when I can.
  • Take my pain meds to avoid crash out.

Bonus points if I actually manage to push the vacuum about first time in a week now I got other chores out of the way, but it can also wait another day.

It’s already such a struggle and I’m not ready for it, but it has to be done sober.

You can do it. Take it one step at a time.

I think it is okay for now to focus on sobriety rather than chores if you can. After a couple of months of sobriety you will have more energy and time that you can put into housework.

Absolutely, personally however enjoy pottering around at home and having not nesessarily the most organised but atleast a clean home, helps with the overwhelm and stress as well as keeps me busy

I get you, ticking off chores off the to do list is very rewarding.
What I do, constantly, not only for recovery, is breaking tasks down to smaller, even minimal tasks so I don’t get overwhelmed. Every mini-task and babystep counts, they add up over time. I’ve been doing this for several years and can highly recommend it. Rewires the brain from getting in a funk because overload to patiently taking time and doing one thing after another, knowing the outcome will be fine.
Rest as much as you can, feed your body & soul with healthy food, drink water and take it ODAAT, from minute to minute.

I prefer more of a mission based housework, like if I want to mop the floors I need to vacuum first and before I vacuum better pick up all the stuff of the floor, and depending on what my goblin brain is doing that day I’ll might end up organising my clothes instead! Had to learn to remind myself atleast I got something done and that’s great!

I have a app called Tody for cleaning so that’s my rolling list, if I write a list my adhd brain is done with the tasks without actually doing anything

And yes definitely have to accept it’s a process! Turns out that’s half of the joy, doing suff at home makes it a home

Been a surprisingly easy to get through today even though things haven’t gone according to plan but part of the whole change that includes being sober is also not getting stressed over stuff I can’t change. Have a hair tye on my wrist I snap to correct myself if I go to old thinking pattern

(on my way to get new back tyres fitted for my car got stuck in traffic due to an accident, booked wrong tyres so back there next week  then back through the same traffic jam and closer to home remembered road home I took is gonna be shut, reroute..)

No rest but made it home without alcohol and just enjoyed three doughnuts and a cup of strong coffee :flexed_biceps: :joy: got my dogs to walk and the vacuum to push about later

It’s easy to over do it in early recovery especially. We spend so much time keeping busy it lend of bites us sometimes. :star::black_heart:

I use the structured app to contain my brain goblin or at least shoulder check him once and awhile. I’m so happy you made it through town and shop. So strong :flexed_biceps: KEEP GOING
