In my experience I found my sponsor at twelve-step meetings, like www.AA.org or www.NA.org, if you go to those sites you can find meetings you can visit (you’ll find the meeting lists if you look in the menus at the sites).

Re: messaging here on TS - if you tap your picture at the top right then tap the envelope icon twice, it will take you to your message box where you can message people. You can also message people by tapping their icon and if they have a public profile you can tap the Message button there.
