They’re usually a tempered glass like the shelves in your refrigerator. Fun fact, most international fire codes require exterior windows to meet the same ratings as the wall for certain things (heat, stress, pressure, etc.) And they are actually manufactured and listed as “glazed walls”. So they’re designed for it!
