That’s me…copy the neighbors! 
When we moved in, instead of checking the town’s website or asking the landlord, I waited to see when everyone else put their cans out. After a couple weeks, I discovered they were putting them out twice a week. I got all excited and couldn’t wait to tell hubby. He was like “what’s wrong with you? It’s only trash”. But if I miss it, I don’t have to wait a whole week like I used to.
