I have found them to be life saving. Antidepressants are not mind altering. The basic theory is that they keep the levels of neurotransmitters higher which can improve communication between the nerve cells, thus strengthening circuits in the brain which regulate mood.
It was a big decision for me. Iām not sure why. I have tried them many times before, but maybe not the right kind. Iām on an anti-anxiety/antidepressant and my life has changed. I never want to go back to that prison that was my head. They are medicine, not a mind or mood altering drug. I also take naltrexone which helps with alcohol cravings.
