Mental health memes and discussion (Part 2)

Same! For me, I have been training myself to shift away from owning or identifying experiences like this, moving from saying it’s “my” anxiety toward more descriptive language like the post uses. Describing what my body and mind are experiencing, saying “I feel” xyz. I don’t have to embody the label of anxiety, and often what is going on with me is more complex than the catch all, too. Lifelong learning, my friend!

Yes!!! I recently had this same shift with ‘being an insomniac’!! I love those aha moments. Identifying the feeling in my body vs it being ‘my’ xyz…lightbulb!!

And definitely lifelong learning!! Thank goodness for that.:sparkles:

EDIT: I totally screwed up and said I can’t recommend it but meant can’t recommend it enough! Oops :grimacing: Corrected!

I can’t recommend enough that you check out Brené Brown’s series on HBO (also streaming on HBOMax) that goes through her book Anthem of the Heart. I bought the book last year and have read portions of it, but watching her in action is just wonderful. For anyone looking for insight into human experience of emotion, this is for you. Here’s a quote:
“Emotions have ingredients. The first one is what we are feeling. The second one is what we call/name it.” One example discussed is anxiety vs excitement. It’s just really worth watching, and if you don’t have HBO, you might be able to get a free trial of the streaming service HBOMax.
