Can relate so much to these 2 posts. Often you don’t realise these feelings are due to what you’ve been through!!

“I was told I need to forgive them so I can move on.”
Sometimes that advice comes from friends, family, even therapists and counsellors.
Forgive them for yourself.
Forgive them so you can let go.
Forgive them so you can finally move on.
But sometimes I wonder
Why do you have to forgive?
I don’t think forgiveness is the blanket answer.
Especially when someone has never taken accountability, never taken responsibility, or perhaps never even acknowledged the hurt they caused.
Asking someone to forgive anyway, just to “be the bigger person”, can sometimes feel like another invalidation of what happened.
Because perhaps what happened really was unfair.
Perhaps you were wronged.
And perhaps you don’t need to turn that into forgiveness for your healing to count.
You can say:
“What happened to me was not okay.”
“I don’t forgive what they did.”
And still decide that you don’t want what happened to keep taking up so much space in your life.
I think that’s an important distinction.
Moving on doesn’t always mean making peace with what someone did.
Sometimes it means making peace with the fact that it happened, that it was unfair, and that you still get to decide what happens next.
You don’t have to forgive someone to take your life back.
What they did belongs to them.
What you do next belongs to you.
You’ve got this, always.

Thank you for sharing, that is gold.
I practiced this after my divorce. When I was told to forgive my ex husband it felt so wrong. Walking away from him, leaving all the shit in the past and at his side on the table was what gave me freedom.
Pure Gold ![]()
I’m the same, also with my exhusband @DanielaJ
I’m not a forgiving person. I remember. Exactly. It prevents me of falling into the same trap again.
And it reminds me that I’m enough, i’m worth just because i am and i step away from people who don’t respect that. I found freedom and peace in closure and distance, not in forgiveness.
This is pure gold and i can honestly say: I’m livin’ it, I enjoy it ![]()
