Chick Shuldiner’s Death was amazing I agree! Have you ever given the 70’s Detroit rock group of the same name a listen? great stuff as well, some of the best rock ever recorded in my opinion

The Brighter Side Of Suffering

A struggle of change that is made
A wrinkle in time, battle of the brave
Fighting for hope of one’s beliefs
Deceiving thought planted in minds
When hell freezes over will come the time
That one’s point will have been made
There’s shattered thoughts, and broken dreams
Wasted lives all for the brighter side of suffering

There’s more than fighting for cause
There’s fighting for what you believe
If there’s a fork in the road of your path
One side needles the other’s glass

At least you’re walking instead of dragging on what’s paved
Some see the glass half empty, others full
I just see the water’s cold
And so is this world that we live in
And so I segregate

Separated from the ones without a cause
I segregate
I segregate

Would would you believe?
Could you believe?
There’s more to this than what it seems
It’s the brighter side of suffering

Poverty, injustice, struggling with the pain
A humble mind of wisdom and non-corruption

Would you believe?
There’s more to this from this life
There’s more to this

Finding a solution
Hope for tomorrow, for a better today
A new revolution
We stand and fight and face the pain

I think they are on tour right now :+1:

I found recently the whole Straight Edge thing has been meaning a lot more to me especially as the idea of being in recovery eventually has become a reality for me. I’ve loved Hardcore since I was a little kid, Minor Threat were even one of my first favourite bands - but I always glazed over the Straight Edge outlook on life, like I respected it, loved the music, but not for me. But now I’m effectively living a Straight Edge lifestyle, the lyrics have taken on a whole new meaning to me. Proper digging it.

Anyways, I started checking out more current Straight Edge bands and realised the scene has moved really strongly into the Metalcore genre, much more in the Earth Crisis side of things. I can’t think of any newer bands to link off hand right now, but I think it’s pretty cool and definitely something I’m gonna be checking out a lot more of :+1:

Teitanblood are the best current death metal band for me. Faultless discography. And good shout on Sadistic Intent, quality stuff. I love the doom death style aswell, bands like Cianide, Disma, Encoffination, really brutal stuff :+1:

@SeanyBoy Big fan of the early SE scene too since I was a kid. Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today is my sober anthem :sunglasses:

I don’t know if you guys know this band, but I can relate to two of their songs. Here is some Power Metal for you:

Dude almost got to open for this band in Lubbock Texas. They ended up canceling the show a week before due to touring date conflicts.

Wow really?! I love this band! They are from my country (Brazil). One of the most famous former lead singer passed away this year (Andre Matos). It’s his voice on both songs I posted. Post some of your music!

Hey @LastTrain here is a video that was put together some time ago. I played bass in this band. We haven’t played together in about 5 or 6 years. In my opinion this is exactly what addiction does to people. I tought we had a lot of raw talent and ambition but drinking and drugs got in the way of all of it. Not only did we miss our on open for As Blood Run Black but a couple other you may like because of our reputation like Miss May I and the very well known As I Lay Dying. When we lost the billing for As I Lay Dying, it crushed me. That was our foot in door and we f#cked it of for partying. Anyway enjoy.

Holly shit man! You guys rock! :metal:

Anyway, don’t feel bad for what happened, just feel good you got sober and now you can start again, this time without all those substances that brought the band down.

But know this, you have real talent man! As Blood Runs Black, As I Lay Dying, Miss May, Angra! You can get it all back once you got sober.

Like, I thought I was going to die, and now I’m on postgrad! Sobriety does works!

Hell yeah man. Thanks. And congratulations to you to.

A masterpiece! This, Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky and Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss got me into Black Metal.

This is one of my favourite recent BM releases. Lots of early Mayhem worship going on.
