Movies Check-in / Reviews šŸ“¼

I’ve been watching the wheel of time on prime (I know it’s a series and not a movie). trying something new I don’t watch much fantasy but it’s pretty good so far. Its based off an old book which could be worth a read

Going to see this today with my son!

Project Hail Mary 4/5
Very cute and a feel good movie… I love Ryan Gosling :heart::heart:

BUGONIA 3/5
WTF. Like I enjoyed it, but also wasn’t over the top convinced by it. It raised some dark chuckles from me at least.

OBSESSION 3.75/5
Cool horror trope with a twist. Made me feel creeped out and think an awful lot afterwards. Super glad I watched it at the cinema, but I probably wouldn’t bother watching again.

Our 4th of July movies were:

Independence Day - loved it in high school, holds up well enough 30 years later.

Practical Magic - I’d never seen it. It’s, um, a little incoherent, but who doesn’t love watching Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest swan around??

I watched this two nights in a row and both times left me feeling a certain way. @Dazercat if you’re looking for another ā€œwhat the fuck did I just watch?ā€ type movie, like Bugonia, this film is a solid contender for a high rank on that list.

I watched this on Thursday, the last day it was in my theater. Also the day I decided to do another sobriety journey (read: detoxing from alcohol and not having my usual coping mechanism at hand.)

MY GOSH. This movie is jam-packed with subtle commentary on some heavy issues. Fantastically done. Having said that, I slept with a nightlight for the first time in probably a decade. So many uncanny moments. I was SWEATING :anxious_face_with_sweat: under the movie blanket but too freaked out to take it off.

I am proud of myself for-

A: taking myself out to do something fun

B: experiencing the movie without a drink and still treating it as a valid outing

C: Choosing a nightlight instead of a nightcap

Sleep did not come easy for me either! I’m a nail biter when I get anxious, so I have very little fingernails left :face_with_crossed_out_eyes:

A, B, and C are all great things to have experienced and all three will help solidify how great being sober can actually be! Repetition of positive, healthy behaviors is just as powerful as repetition of negative, unhealthy behavior.

Looking forward to sharing more love of movies with you in the future! I’m always up for a good mind bender :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Yikes :grimacing:
Just watched the trailer. Intriguing :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I’m not much of a horror flick guy. But if it’s a WTF did I just watch movie. I might just work it in.
Thanks for the tip.
I’m due

Civil War - 3.8/5
Strange for an Alex Garland produced piece, IMO. Relevant and current, yet lacking something. Something was missed in this dystopian post capitalist political vision. Something to elevate it to memorable. Enjoyed it, but the pacing was also a bit stop start and choppy. Wouldn’t watch it again, but enjoyed it enough I guess.

Life Hack - 4/5
Enjoyable cyber yarn. Very watchable! And terrifying…

Watched this one last night. Wow…so much to unpack. Can’t believe you watched it twice! I do think watching a second time could also clear some things up that we might have missed.

Watching it twice did help me see it in more detail rather than surface level horror  while I won’t be watching it soon it is 100% going on my ā€œmust watch during Halloween seasonā€ list. I’m soooo looking forward to seeing more creations by Curry Barker :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Agree! Crazy the budget for it was only 750k. Wouldn’t have known that watching it. It really was fantastic overall.

We went to the cinema today.:cinema:

The Invite 4.25/5
Impeccable acting, funny, tender, impeccable scripting. Really worth a watch! Cruz and Wilde captivate primarily, but Rogan was the best I’ve seen him. Go see it! :victory_hand:

The Housemaid 3/5
Dropped on Prime, so we gave it a watch after both reading the book ages ago. Mmm. Not bad, not great, not really necessary if you read books. I guess if you don’t, then you get to watch this :winking_face_with_tongue:

I really enjoyed this too. I saw it on a whim
solo in theatre when kiddo was at a friends and I was killing time. I ended up renting/buying it at home so he could watch too.
