The most helpful tool in my recovery has been the telephone and calling friends in recovery whenever I have free time. Not only does it help me feel part of a community but they get something out of it as well. It is something I have to practice when I’m feeling good because when I feel like looking at porn, the last thing on my mind is calling for help.

Dont forget… porn addiction isnt just to sex. It stems from lack of true connection with people in your life and medicating painful emotions.
to takle that…figuring out the deeper pain is important.
see where you can improve your personal connections.

That is definitely part of the addiction. Although I dont think that’s every addict. I think there are some SA that have very deep and meaningful relationships. One main issue is that Pornography is very isolating and it breeds dishonesty and seclusion. I’m certain that most every pornography addict can agree to that.

Many addicts lead a double life. This can only happen for so long before the addiction takes over both and the lies and deception are discovered. Shame and isolation are key factors in sex addiction. In my experience, breaking the shame cycle(not beating myself up), understanding that I am human and I will never be perfect have been monumental in my recovery.

A fear of intimacy comes with sex addiction or the other way around. How can I have real intimacy with someone, let them know the real me when I’m hiding something and keeping secrets? Bring up sex addiction in a group of non sex addicts and listen to the responses. It is important to have a safe place to go to learn intimacy, where I can feel comfortable being totally honest without judgment and also without being coddled.
