Netflix Hulu HBO Apple YouTube etc….. binge ideas please!

Right?! Love it that you enjoyed it. When I first read the comics It was a little twisty to follow here and there, comics are sometimes like that even when you read the whole run?-do you follow any comics?-but the live action filled in like two gaps that I needed from like 7 yrs ago. Outstanding adaptation tho! Glad you liked it!

What’s it about?

It’s based on The Sandman comic series by Neil Gaiman, kind of a dark fantasy with a little horror thrown in. In a nutshell The Sandman is the lord of the dream realm.

I don’t really follow any comics, but have read a little of The Sandman series (the first 2 compilations) and some Neil Gaiman. I read the first volume back in the 90’s, always loved the concept of the story and wanted to see it done on screen but it was always considered unfilmable. I’m glad they waited to film this and took their time… I remember there was talk at one time of Joseph Gordon Levitt playing Dream (younger guy from 3rd Rock from the Sun), that may not have turned out so well, lol!

The Sandman follows Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, after he escapes his captivity and attempts to restore his kingdom of Dreaming. While the scale and the sheer lavishness of the world of The Sandman was originally considered to be “unfilmable”, the show has knocked the socks off critics and long-time fans of the story, with one reviewer calling it “easily one of the best small-screen comic adaptations ever made.”

Yeah some of it started getting a little too hard to follow here n there for me in the comics- like art right interpretation and all that but the assessments of humanity in the live action are intriguing. Agreed on the actors makes such a huge compliment or reversal of interest for sure!

Hey @Dazercat I saw elsewhere that you are watching The Bear. I’m only on episode 4, which I will try to remedy tonight and am loving the acting and the character development. As a long time restaurant employee I feel that the terms 86, corner, and heard are a little too “look at us using restaurant terminology” for a Chicago beef place. I am probably just being too critical but I’ve had a few conversations about it with my restaurant buddies. Not trying to take away from the excellent acting and character development and maybe I’m just being critical. Thoughts?

Took me a few episodes to get in to it. I love the chaos and intensity. I was a long time restaurant pro in 24 hour restaurants and basically considered myself a crisis manager. And there was always something going on. I didn’t really notice what your mentioning. I’m just thriving on the chaos. And doing it sober. Which I never could do when I was working. I just finished it last night. I hope there’s another season. Loving Ayo Edebiri :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I miss restaurants too. I could not do what I did back then sober either but I am so grateful for all the time I spent in them. I’m going to keep watching.

There’s an interesting show I think on Netflix, regarding a diner in Japan,

My sister told me about It, apparently it’s revolving a few characters, but because Japan closes down around 10pm an all nite diner is a rare oddity,

If I can remember the name, I’d feel like a genius right now

Is it Street Food Tokyo? I liked that show. Basically anything about travel, food or culture I’ll watch.

Watched Enlightenment on HBOMAX and loved it with Laura Dern. Great 2 season show.

Oh cool maybe I’ll check out the Oceans entry at some point. For me the way I experienced the live action all in one place was easier to follow than the readings. I’m glad you enjoyed the readings tho for sure.

Westworld was good for sure I’ve since stopped having HBO so never finished it. Happy binging to you too my friend.

I like Westworld as well. I don’t have HBO either and only recently able to access fast internet so I’m way behind on everything. For me, the library system was/is a huge resource. My library has a very large DVD collection in addition to books and online content. They will mail physical materials to my home. I can return checked out materials by mail or by dropping it off at any library in my system. All at no cost to me (other than the taxes I pay).

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I am loving it. The acting is brilliant and the characters have a lot of strength (I am looking forward to how they develop in the coming episodes). The setting is beautiful, the story is compelling. Highly recommended for anyone who loves fantasy.

Is this supposed to be the story of the rise of Sauron and the forging of the rings? I’m excited to watch it, but haven’t been able to get around to it yet.

Yes it is that story, though it takes time to explore a wide range of other parts of the world: the tensions between humans and elves in the Second Age, after the defeat of Morgoth at the end of the First Age (some elves remained to keep watch, which included patrolling and keeping track of people and events, and many humans resented it); the tensions between elves and dwarves (especially their king Durin III, who is skeptical about allying with the elves; his son Durin IV, friend of Elrond, is not so skeptical); and the different currents within the elves themselves (for example, Galadriel is rewarded by their king, who offers her passage to the Undying Lands [and Elrond strongly urges her to let the hunting go, and to take her voyage home], a voyage home across the Sundering Seas; for her labours hunting Sauron - who killed her brother; but she jumps off the ship at the last moment, and forfeits her entry into the Undying Lands).

I enjoyed the first two episodes very much. There’s going to be a new episode every Friday.
