6 days no candy
This weekend will be the real test but I made it out the grocery store tonight with fruit instead and don’t need candy to get through tonight and will repeat tomorrow or reach out if I’m struggling. I really need to work on my sugar problem.. Added sugar* one day at a time just like alcohol and pills
I do feel my mouth watering a lot which I have experienced before like cravings or trouble focusing/ mild anxiety but I know it will pass
PS: Also told some co workers I’m staying away from candy to help hold me accountable which is where a lot of my candy was at..
17 days no candy ! Really not having cravings on a regular basis but sometimes at night I do.. but the last 2 weeks I stop at the grocery store after work and go right to produce and get fruit instead of candy or granola bars or just better snacks.. also a lot of carrots, and celery
Honestly had to come to this thread to know how many days because I got used to no candy but surprised it’s been that long. Today I was thinking it had to be atleast 2 weeks
Thank you. The candy was kinda getting out of control and had stashes everywhere and I knew it might be a problem when i started bringing some to work and would leave late at night to get some starburst or skittles.. eat the whole bag and then feel horrible the next day. Also indigestion problems and upset stomach a lot.. plus obviously not good for my teeth. I think it’s like everything you just have to be fed up and find a more positive replacement. For me it’s been blueberries, strawberries, halo tangerines, and raspberries mostly. Or just eating real food when I have that sugar craving or candy craving. I’m not trying to go the rest of my life without candy.. I’m just trying to not have candy tonight and tomorrow I will try again
Wow sugar is a beast. Last night i had brownies staring me down at an event and it was taking up so much mental space. I wonder if normies are haunted by sugar like this addict/alcoholic is. Luckily i leaned on my supports and didnt give in to the craving. 21 days reduced sugar/no desserts
I didnt want to restart the obsession, overeating, shame cycle. I hope the cravings get less intense with time. The incessant thoughts reminded me of my battle with booze
I know this is a “no sugar added” thread and not a “zero sugar” thread, but this seemed like the best place to put this.
I’ve gone one month no sugar. None. No added sugar, no fake sugars, no fruit, no sauces with a bit of sugar, nothing. I’ve basically been eating chicken breast, sweet potato, broccoli, avocado, and butter. I am taking a bunch of supplements to be sure I’m getting what I might miss out of my diet. Honestly, it was hardest the first week and then it got easier. I feel great overall, but I’ve had some of the most crazy food dreams involving sweets. I do still get cravings, but they’re not as bad as they were before. The threat of how awful i will feel if I drop off is enough to keep me on track. Also my sleep is so much better which is one of the main reasons I decided to do this.
Anyway, I don’t contribute much these days, so I thought this might be a good thing to share.
@Cjp great job not having the brownie! It can be so hard when its right there looking at you. You did great!
I think we know the answer to that.
NOPE!
I’m so happy you didn’t give in.
That’s got to be a pretty hard thing to do @Chiron since almost all store bought food has some for of sugar. That amazing! And this is a perfect place to post it. Better sleep, and I think, less inflammation is a benefit I’m taking.
But what a feat. Zero sugar
Yes less inflammation has been another huge plus. I’ve had more sustained energy as well, though that’s probably partially due to my dietary change as a whole.
It was particularly hard on valentines day. I was given a bunch of chocolate caramels. They are still in my cupboard unopened. I’ve been supplementing with 100% dark chocolate in the mornings to help with the chocolate cravings.
You’re so right about store bought food. Sugar in everything. I kind of settled on what im eating now out of the desire for simplicity. I didnt want to check every box and bag. Also it helps in logging food when things are the same. Occasionally the monotony gets to me, but since i like the foods I’m eating, that helps. In a way, I think its helped me shift my focus away from sweet foods and food in general when everything’s the same. There’s no dopamine hit from changing things up, or the possibility of sweets. My brain knows what the next meal will consist of; and since it’s predictable, and I’m not having snacks right now, then there is less interest in what is possible to have. That’s just my theory though.
