Hi everyone,

I’m newly sober and trying to find behaviours to replace my drinking. Something I’ve found interesting for longer is Chinese tea rituals. Especially with the tiny cups and bitter herbal flavors it somehow reminds me of my shots of vodka (drink of choice). But instead of feeling guilt and hangovers, the tea makes me feel happy and can make you feel calm and focused. I’m person who loves routines and habits, so this would be a nice replacement if I can keep it going, wish me luck!

Welcome @Raspy33 pretty neat concept you’ve got here, and I like that it’s a completely alcohol-free drink! Lots of folks on here chat about using NA products which most still have trace amounts of alcohol in them. But I think it’s neat you’re picking a beverage that’s totally clean, and also it has a routine attached to it like you said. It’s intentional in a positive and mindful way which would be the opposite of drinking alcohol. Thanks for sharing, I may have to give tea rituals a try myself 😎

I completely relate to that—I’m 1,025 days sober, and rituals were a massive part of my drinking life too. Replacing those old habits with a new, healthy ritual has been key for me. My go-to is strong black Irish tea mixed with fresh lemonade, which I make every single day. And it won’t kill me.

Hey there! Tea is a great alternative for sure! I love a good routine/schedule myself. In fact, having a daily recovery routine has been instrumental to my recovery!! I involved things that are good for me mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Trying to find balance in all areas 🙂

Hello Raspy33! Welcome to this wonderful site - yes, well anything that distracts from usual routines associated with drinking helps. Tea and all those natural tanins, sounds interesting, it takes time if nothing else to keep your hands busy in making it. The tea and lemonade combination? Can’t say I fancy that, but each to thier own! I have found that after 40 years of hard driking my taste buds are coming back to life, after having been anaethethesed by alcohol. Severly dehydrated on day 1, so forced myself to just drink water for next few days, and with the empty calories I was saving, indulged in cake and icecream! My metabolism seems to be ok, since still weigh same after 38 days. So yes, Raspy, keep finding other things to distract you. I find this site distracts me from gving into the temptation to drink that will be in my psyche for life. And so the fight continues… along with the other people in here. Find comfort, read, post. That’s what I do, and it helps… take care 🙂

Is this really a good thing tho friend? Your trying not to have your vodka so is it not a little dangerous that your doing something that reminds you of it?
