Not What I Wanted for Christmas

This morning I was excited to have made it to 6 days and knew that Christmas dinner was going to be difficult. I told myself at least a dozen times that I was going to make it home without having a single drink and failed. Just having to go into the Sober Time app to reset it… to see 6.9 days turn into 1 second was heartbreaking! So I really hope this mental punch in the face will do some good. I can see now that avoiding drinking is possible when I’m home keeping busy and distracted - but I will REALLY need some help getting through social situations where there is booze all over the table. After the first two beers went down quickly, my grandmother dumped the 3rd in the sink, handed me the keys and said “drink water, you’re driving us home tonight”. That’s the only reason I was able to stop. As soon as we got to the house, I immediately came here to read about how Christmas was going for others going through the same thing.

Hi @BRIANthePIRATE, don’t beat yourself up about it. It happened and you learned from it. Social situations are going to be hard where free booze is all around. I must say, if your Grandma knew you were trying to stay sober, she did something awesome tonight by giving you the keys, and also handing you your power back. Next time you will be able to find your own power from within I bet!! Merry Christmas!

I commend you for coming here so quickly and immediately sharing. I don’t know if I could be honest about it so quickly. It’s a good day to start over.

Hey Brian, you have some really positive things to take from this experience!
You’ll NEVER forget what your Gran did for you tonight
You were Strong enough to take it on the chin, listen to her and stop drinking (just at the point when most people would be poised to destroy their evening)
You got back home and wrote about the effect this experience had on you
And you wrote how you felt, rather than getting wasted on your own.
That looks like a pretty successful list of achievements to take into your reset!
