We will see how long I stick around for. I continue to try to keep off looking at social media constantly. But, it’s been like 8 months since I was on, so I figured I would saunter a bit. See what’s cookin.
Well thanks for breezing in and classing up the joint.
It’s not strictly scifi, but Captain Marvel and Endgame came out. Nice capstones if you’re into the MCU.
Also, my friend is on about ST Discovery yesterday. They’re offering CBS all access through Amazon Prime now ($). Thinking about getting on it to catch up.
I, for one, thought the last season of the Orville was surprisingly great.
It’s still an extra prime service fee like HBO is, on top of prime. Only perk is you can watch it anywhere you watch your prime stuff.
Continuing the discussion from Mind Blowing Random Thoughts:
@DungeonMaster’s fact, and the mention of CBS and VHS, reminds me of why it’s unlikely DS9 and Voyager are unlikely to see a remastering to HD.
As it turns out, remastering ST:TNG cost an insane amount of money due to how the original material was put together for SD broadcast at the time. The entire series (178x44 minute episodes!) was, for all intents and purposes, re-edited from scratch.
That combined with the advent of Netflix cutting into HD disc sales just as it was released proved a hard enough blow that DS9 and Voyager are not expected to enjoy the same treatment.
This is not a movie it’s a documentary I’m currentliy watching on Neflix called “Bob Lazar - Area 51& flying saucers”. This may not be for everyone but I am highly interested in such stuff
I found it very interesting
Okay, with you and @Englishd suggesting it, it’s in my queue.
Also thank you because I just saw Stranger Things 3 comes out tomorrow. There goes my long weekend.
Stoked for ST3!
Started watching “Another Life” on Netflix, the trailer looked fantastic
Update: why the fu** do some of them take off their masks on an alien planet? Why should someone do that? Guess what happened? Have you seen Alien? Blerch!!!
Sidenote: never eat while watching a SciFi series where aliens may be involved
I’d like to revive this thread
Currently watching MARS on Netflix. Looks really good, a mix of scifi series and documentary
I watched it a while back. Really enjoyed it. Waiting for the 2nd season which has already aired on whatever network produces the show.
Just finished 3 books set in the same universe as the movie Alien. The first takes place in between the first movie, and the sequel. The second book is a continuation of the first book, but takes place several centuries after. The third book covers the events on the colony, before the Colonial Marines and Ripley get there, and the little girl Newt is a central character.
Very nice departure from my usual histories or books about martial arts and self-defense.
Sounds cool!
Wanted to reply to another series of message between @anon86726034 and @Knives69 & figured this sci fi thread would be the place:
@anon86726034 I’m a huge TNG fan too. For me the character of Jean Luc Picard is what makes the show; he holds it together & gives it a deeper meaning. The movie Star Trek: First Contact (best Star Trek movie ever) - the line must be drawn here!
@Knives69 I recently finished rewatching the DS9 series and developed a new appreciation for it. It took me some time; at first I avoided it, but now I think of it as an epic series. Is it a series I would recommend to a Star Trek or sci fi newbie? No - for that I usually start w Voyager (also a fave show - the characters & plots are brilliant and they do all kinds of little touches like (for example) not infantilizing pregnant women: “Would you mind looking at the power conduit?” “Sure Neelix I’d be happy to.” No one mentions she’s pregnant because it’s no big deal and her and her body are just as capable as ever) - but for someone who is into the ST universe and looking for a new depth to it? DS9, absolutely. And you’re right: Moogie is the best. She shows how a woman can turn the galaxy on its head - traditions and expectations be damned.
Mmmmm yes Garak is the best. And Odo! Odo is the heart.
Another fave: Dukat. Totally batshit crazy. Keeps everyone on their toes.
