One drink cost me nearly a week

I was just thinking about how my recent pit stop on Relapse Road cost me almost a whole week on my journey to Recovery.
The time and energy it took to deal with the needed repairs after l was stripped of my newer sparklier parts was the worst.

I sure learned a lot pulling out of Relapse Road though and am a lot better equipped to avoid being lured in by its flashy and appealing lights again. Today is a personal milestone as I give myself permission to not be in the company of those who ‘drive me to drink’. (pun intended) I’ve let others steer me for far to long and the struggle leaves me with noticeable dents and scratches. Today I am taking back full control because obviously I’m the only one who knows how to operate this vehicle property.

On life’s metaphorical road trip we need to remember that the vehicles we drive, (ourselves) weren’t designed to go long distances on auto pilot while we drink away the journey. Proper vehicle maintenance and filling our tanks before we hit empty is vital in order to keep going to arrive at our destination of Recovery on time.

But, even some of the most well thought out, perfectly calculated, and strategically budgeted road trips can take an unexpected turn and veer us off course. I am happy to report that I am back on track and in the drivers seat of my own vehicle once again ready to speed by (and maybe hit) any pedestrians who encourage me to drive recklacely again.

Safe travels everyone! Keep those motivating tunes blaring and the windows of your heart rolled down to enjoy the refreshing breeze of sobriety! And never forget that no matter who we are or how long we’ve been driving sober, one drink will cause us to crash.

"The open road, the path of greatness
It’s at your fingers
Go be the one that keeps on fighting
Go be the stranger
Just put your foot in front’ the other
Crow like a rooster
We are allowed to get us something
Fear as a danger

Spill out on the streets of stars
And ride away
Find out what you are
Face to face

Once you’ve had enough
Carry on
Don’t forget to love
’Fore you’re gone"

I always love reading your beautiful and poetic posts. Im so happy for you that you have made it through that brief little thunderstorm because those always can be hard to surpass. I love that the sun always comes out after a dark and cloudy storm and when it does it always seems like the skies are that much bluer and more beautiful than before. Life is such an epic battle and the journey is so hard to understand at times but Im learning that it is making me beautiful through all of its imperfections. It is of course something that I work on on a daily basis but once the the cut has healed there will always be a scar, It is just learning to accept how beautiful your scars are that makes us truly extraordinary individuals.

Way to keep on with all the beauty the world has to offer and accepting with a such a positive outlook all of the terrifying moments it presents to us as well.

love always

I like the pic, but your fur friend looks like he’s thinking, “Ummm… mom, I thinks we’re sitting in the middle of a thoroughfare.” :metal:

Lol… Dexter, he’s my 15 year d bestie. He’s the only thing that’s remained a constant in my life since we were puppies
Always by my side tolerating my shenanigans
