Ha, that’s a pretty cool thought.
As a landscaper I used to tell people who wanted me to hack their bushes… “Bushes and trees are like children, you can try to force them to be something they aren’t, or train them to be what they really are”.
Never even thought about using a similar metaphor in regards to addiction.
Oh my gosh! I’m adopting that! I’m on a palm tree farm- I have lots of landscaping metaphors 
Nature teaches me more than I’ve ever learned in school
I could go on about how we can liken ourselves to a plant, where we root, what we water ourselves with, if we absorb energy to convert into growth… and if we find our soil is deficient arenas brave enough to transplant ourselves to richer soil…
and then there’s sprouting… lol.
