Places I'd like to visit

I live in Queensland, Australia and yes, we do have a lot of dangerous/venomous animals here, but it’s really unlikely that you’ll come close to any. I’ve been to the Great Barrier Reef a couple of times and it’s gorgeous  :coral: :tropical_fish: I was lucky enough to fly over it the last time I went in a small sea plane, and I was in awe of the breathtaking beauty. Definitely recommend visiting  Also, there are Kangaroos everywhere! Near where a I live, there is a park with a walkway, kinda a green corridor amongst a suburban area are there are Kangaroos and wallabys all over the place. sometimes they’re lazing about on the pathways and I have to wait for them to move so I can go past, lol. They’re really funny creatures, I love watching them hop away in a group, bouncing over things. Here are a couple photos from the last time I walked through there :kangaroo:

Also, apologies if I derailed your thread Paul @FarFromNormal :upside_down_face: I read the topic as like an opening to start a discussion about places people would like to visit and thought you were looking for others to share theirs. Might have been mistaken, though. Sorry if so. Well, I have only ever been to the U.S once and that was last September, to LA and Las Vegas. I loved it. Haven’t been to Texas though and never heard of Galveston. I’d definitely like to go to the U.S again one day though and see more. I’m curious to know more about Galveston now :slightly_smiling_face:

Galveston was also a smaller version of Ellis Island. Many German and Eastern European settlers came in through the port. There’s a terrific immigration museum in town.
And, since it’s Texas, in addition to the seafood (at one spot, the shrimp boats pull up next to your table and unload onto a conveyor into the kitchen. That’s fresh.), you also have BBQ and Tex-Mex, so all the major food groups are covered.
And then, you are only 45-60 minutes from Houston, with its restaurants, sports, shopping, and museums–the Menil and the Rothko chapel are must sees.

I was wondering if any Aussies would show up to vouch for the homeland! Thanks @Clayton18 and @emc2018 :smirk: I knew it was awesome there! Kangaroo pics welcome anytime (but maybe not here :joy:). I too, wasn’t 100% on the intentions of this thread, but I like where it’s going :earth_americas:

I would love to visit:

Japan (cherry blossoms and all the tech and culture and food)
Canada ( specifically Banff area, the eastern islands and the more remote northern territories)
Northern Scandinavian areas of Sami and indigenous culture.
Svalbard (to see the frozen seed bank that holds the world species of seeds for biological importance, and I would love to see a polar bear before we extinct them)
New Zealand (I would love to hike there and see the Southern Borealis)
USA: Portland, OR / NY / Washington state and the Cascade region, and some other places I just fancy visiting for the hikes and tremendous national parks.
Istanbul, food and Dracula related.

But I add here that the UK is phenomenal for a visit as well. I can’t wait to get up to Scotland again :two_hearts::two_hearts::two_hearts:

@Just_Laura never mind, on my phone I don’t get owt if I put in kangaroo but if I put in Australia I get :kangaroo::boomerang::earth_asia::australia: that’s just weird.
But saying that when my wife types anything in a txt the phone puts a :christmas_tree: tree at the end, I’ve been trying to find out why for weeks .

Edit: wait it’s doing it now fickle piece of technology .

The cliffs are a sight to see. There’s a little village close to the cliffs called Doolin. I think it’s less than 10 miles away. Google Doolin. Great little town in the hills with nice B&B’s. Great village for walking and it’s close to the ocean.

July’s a good time to go. The weather can actually be pretty warm that time of year.

Enjoy your trip. It’s as beautiful as you’ve heard.

Hmm  you taught me a new word. Owt. I thought it was a typo when I first saw it, but looked it up after you used it again. Interesting.

I don’t get anything for ‘kangaroo’ either and only :australia: for ‘Australia’, but I’ve always just searched for specific ones  Can’t help you with the :christmas_tree: Weird

My fav getaway was/is Bora Bora - we stayed there 2x in overwater bungalows. Glad for all our other travels too, Aus., NZ, Hawaii, Canada, Costa Rico, Mexico, etc.

Doctors told me a few months back that I shouldn’t fly anymore, but I have no woulda/coulda/shoulda places since we did all of the above.
