You are close!
It’s a small stand I made for my phone that can hold it in portrait and landscape orientations.
I made it out of an offcut of hardwood and some random steel rod I had laying around. The surface was textured using a tungsten carbide sculpting wheel on my angle grinder, and a router cut the channel to lock the phone into.
It’s great to be able to sit my phone in next to my iPad and PC as another screen resource.

Here’s the big brother to the little phone holder.

Made from the same scrap wood and steel rod. This one I routed two channels into so that I could have two different screen angles for the iPad. Light wasn’t great for the pics, and I was to lazy to walk it all somewhere better . You get the idea
