Post your most inspiring photos of nature #3

My pleasure. I hope y’all don’t mind. I really enjoy sharing.

The Arzviller Barge Lift is an “inclined plane lift”, located on the Marne-Rhine Canal in Alsace-Lorraine, France. It lifts water boxes loaded with boats, up a hillside some 170 feet. The water boxes are counterbalanced by the large concrete blocks attached with cables. The weights pass under the water boxes.

They took us here so we could see what we’re doing tomorrow. We’ll be taking the lift down.
By the way Jason. The barge is 39 meters long. The locks are all a standard 39 and a half meters long. Pretty fucking tight fit. He has to paint his boat at the end of the next month before he takes it to Germany. He cringes every time he scrapes into a lock :grimacing: It’s unavoidable
The lift in the pic has 3 boats in it. The barge will be riding solo.

Thats really cool. Good things he isnt a drunk!

What a cool way to tour a country. On the water, experiencing the life blood of the land. That’s where my love for fishing started. On the rivers with all the amazing sights. Catching fish is just a bonus.

It really is the coolest thing. I keep thinking Jason would love this. Jason would love that or appreciate it anyway.
Went over a highway in an aqueduct this afternoon.

Mileage wise we aren’t going far. Winding through locks and visiting little villages.

That boat lift saves us about 12 locks and about 24 hours I think. Which is huge since they use to use this as a transport for goods way back when. Now it’s just touristy.

That is my favorite country you know? I lived in London in 78/79. Ya long long ago. I try to get back there every once and awhile. Honeymooned in London to Lands End in 83. I forgot where you are. Is that Bristol? I love to see pics of Britain.

And yes I’m having an amazing time. You should see the foodies thread.

It’s hard on us leaving all our pets more than ten days.

Took this from the top of the Meteora cliff monasteries near the town of Kalabaka, Greece a few days ago. Best sunset I’ve ever experienced.

Going through the mountain, more like a large hill. Mile and a half long tunnel. Barely wide enough to fit.

Some of the French Villages have a flower rating on their sign when you enter the village.
One :cherry_blossom: flower to 4 :cherry_blossom::cherry_blossom::cherry_blossom::cherry_blossom:
I’m not sure what the flower rating is here because it’s a big town. The flowers are always amazing over here.

I’m 6’2 and this thing is bigger than me.

There is a gas station somewhere in France. When we going for a holiday by car to France ore Italy we tank there. There are so many storks around and on that gas station! People visit it to just see it and that gas station sells all kind of stork souvenirs. It’s such a funny place just beside the highway!
I just had to think about it when seeing your pictures Eric.
