OH WOW - are those all snails? That is intense!
It’s a survival mechanism against the heat!
Interesting to see every summer!
“During this aestivation period, which lasts up to four months, the snails remain in a state of lethargy, reducing their metabolism and heart rate to almost half of what they normally are”
Very interesting…never seen them like this. Thanks for sharing ![]()
That is crazy
Are you sure you didn’t super glue all those snails on there? Just joking. Cool pic.
Yeah, I’m all into the likes and sat there for 5 hours glueing them! ![]()

At a different time of the year, when it’s rainy season, people collect them and eat them with alloli (garlic mayonnaise). Not my type of food to be honest…
You in France then or round abouts the area?
We’ve got giant edible snails in England, on the South Downs and they are protected.
But, if you live down there you are encouraged to welcome them into your gardens so they have a safe habitat to breed in.
Apparently they don’t like owt above 6" because they fall off as they’re too heavy, about the size of a baseball, they do specialise in Thistles, Dock and Stingy Nettles, taking them down at ground level, and then grazing on the remains.
I really whish we had some in Sheffield they’d do wonders for the garden, but they only live on the Chalk Downs.

Im in Spain, Mallorca!
I didn’t think you were that far south ![]()
Brilliant climate, I spent a couple of years on Malta, around Valletta, weather was great, the lighting and thunder was amazing.

Cool. I’ve never seen them in trees.
It was way cool. Funny thing it was trees right in front of fish and wildlife building.
WOW! These are some beautiful pics ![]()
