It’s either gremlins or the freeze/thaw cycle…

One can never rule out gremlins. (A candidate for my new motto)

On my short ramble this morning:

@Mtrav0040 I think the little house in this last one is where the gremlins responsible reside.

Not inspiring, but thought nature lovers might help us out. Hiking in northern California we came upon this dead tree, pock marked with little holes. At first we thought maybe woodpeckers, but something that looked like acorns were growing in the holes.

Anyone know what the deal is?

(Post now creepy tree-free! Sorry, y’all.)

I learned a new word today. Yeah, it is a little disturbing…

Not growing. Some kind of pecking bird stores it’s food that way

For real? Does it make the holes, too? :open_mouth: Birds eat acorns?

I mean I’m all for organization but never would have thunk it for a wee bird.

We stayed at a cabin in the mountains a few years ago and all the exterior trim on it was full of these too. So the birds don’t discriminate between tree and cabin

Ha… yep. Acorn woodpeckers, I’ll be damned. And a California thing.

I have pictures in my old phone of course the cabin we stayed in. All the trim and facia were full of these acorns. The owner of the cabin encouraged it with bird feeders all over the property. It was pretty cool

Nothing special, the sun shining through the tree just captured my attention!

I’d like to see the creepy tree if you would send it to me privately.
