Posting Under the Influence - Separate topic

It’s recently been suggested that we should create a separate topic where users are allowed to post while under the influence. Usually this is against the forum rules as it has a negative effect on others. While users will be allowed to post under the influence here, other rules will still apply. You won’t be able to swear at or attack someone for example.

My idea was that it should have a name like “Under the influence - Don’t read if you’re sensitive” but I’d like some name suggestions too.

What about In limbo with relapsing- uncensored?or something along those lines. For people like me in the situation I was in.

Wouldn’t ‘relapsing’ be a better name choice. People who are likely to post there are likely to have ‘slipped’ and are seeking encouragement to gain control of themself again.

Just a thought

I would like to see something along the lines of "Seeking Help (Warning: Under the Influence/Sensitive) so it is more specific. Just so people don’t get the wrong idea and think that it’s ok to glamorize their relapse. It should be clear that it is a place for people to be TALKED OUT of continuing to drink/use.

What about “seeking encouragement-relapses”

Yep totally agree with you @MissQuinn, not to be glamorised! They’ve come to be talked out of it!!

I think no I prefer it say “relapsing” or similar. I wouldn’t want to encourage someone to use and then come a bragging…but if a person is in the middle of a relapse looking for help I would love to encourage…rather than forcing them to wait with their guilt.

I second that comment @VSue

I agree with the general idea of having a space for users to post looking for help even when they are under the influence.

I think it might create some confusion if it is just a separate thread especially if it isn’t pinned or something like that. A separate forum that is limited to opted in users as suggested by @Charlesfreck seems more workable. Is it possible to let users opt in to certain forums or certain badges and limit the forum via the badge?

If it just a random thread the user has to search for that thread and post there if it wasn’t near the top. Some users won’t remember the name of the thread. Some may just remember that they have seen posts under the influence and assume it is OK to post anywhere.

I like @MissQuinn 's idea…Seeking Help (under the influence)

I agree with @MissQuinn also

What would happen if say someone is half in the bag / under the influence and post in a different category accidentally?

I DINS

I Drank I Need Support
It’s a crossroad between I did and don’t want to.

That would be against forum rules.

I figured out how to make an opt-in category!

We can have a separate group, called [please give name suggestions] that anyone can join or leave. Then I can set the new category to only allow users in that group access.

@Charlesfreck The auto move thing is not possible though.

Sounds really positive @Robin!
It really then just comes down to making sure everyone knows and understands what the category’s about and where it is.
Although this could be part of the opt-in process.
Which could be part of joining the forum?

Not sure about this…maybe call it “day after regrets”. Would they let you in an AA meeting drunk? I worry people here might be vulnerable and at a weak point give in while reading about people being drunk and or high at that exact moment. I remember reading someone on here sitting outside of a bar that came on here and eventually drove away from the bar not drinking . As everyone knows we have weak points when it’s hard to stay positive .In the early days of sobriety, it seems the mind is always looking for a way out,a moment of weakness to give up. I wouldn’t want a couple posts of people using to be THAT moment that would have made that guy walk in the bar instead of driving away.
