Prepping for the wknd already

I have plans this Friday with a best friend I don’t see too much anymore, and we’re both excited about it. She even has the hubby watching the 3 year old so she can have a proper “girls night” out with me.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve reliably been the “party girl” friend of my friend group. I’ve gone through my “breaks” from alcohol but they don’t generally last long. Well, this time feels like a big one. One that needs to last. Like, forever.

Just sent her an email telling her I was excited for Friday and listed some ideas for what we could get up to and mentioned that I wasn’t drinking. Again. But for real this time. Even mentioned the great app and forums I had for support.

Today is day 16. Been drinking on and off for approx 23 years. Mostly functional, but stagnant, like there’s nothing else out there for me. I’ve now made the conscious decision to no longer believe that, so I’m going for whatever is next for me. Let’s take care of some s___ in 2017!!!

Well done on being honest with your friend @kristymichelle. I hope she takes your sobriety as seriously as you do. Even though you’re going on for a girls night, try and stay away from places that will tempt you. Even though you haven’t seen her for a while, remember that your sobriety is the most important thing right now.

You can do a lot of things besides going to places where you will be surrounded by alchol
