Pride Month (LGBTQ+ and addiction)

The canal pride as it is, might require some change…
57% of the LGBTIQ+ community thinks it’s “too commercial, too stigmatising and too Amsterdams”…

Every year this discussion comes back. In the past there have been two different organisations trying to rob each other of organising it. I’m fine with changing it. Most important point of criticism is too much commercialism if I understand the original article right and I agree 100% with that. BTW, I don’t think it’s strange more than half would like to change it as literally and by definition there is no community as diverse as the LGBTIQ+ community.

First time I read about it… but old news apparently.
Yes, too commercial but also too much focussed on nudity.
Indeed it’s not helpful for the provinces in it’s current shape…

When you’re painting your house but can’t decide on your gender  :stuck_out_tongue:

Just read this, getting a bit tired how things are turned inside out all the time on each topic in the Netherlands at the moment, their will always be pro’s and con’s. The pic looks like it was indeed a good party!

Finally… the Dutch NA rainbow flyer is approved !
Final version not ready yet, but at least it’s approved

A while ago I had to read in the report of a business meeting of one of my homegroups that’s they didn’t vote in favour, but neutral.
When I reffered to that in the group app only stating that if I had been there I would have voted in favour, it resulted in quite a discussion.
Which I could have known, and somehow did expect to happen.

Still it was difficult having to defend my point of view while not ready to out myself to an online group of 98 persons.

It felt damn vulnerable to do exactly that though but despite some shitty responses by the Testosteron rexes, it lead me towards the path of exploring both my sexuality and gender, so it was worth it.

And today, reading yesterday’s business meeting report, it was great to read that flyer has been approved !

I know this is an old post but I was looking through the thread and saw it. One of my friends recently had the honour of walking her niece down the aisle, but sadly because her mum wanted nothing to do with the occasion. I was chatting to her about it earlier as she had her niece and her now wife over for some tea.

She still talks about the hen do on Canal Street in Manchester. Some excellent drag queens (performers and punters) and lots of fun had by all.

So sad that mother misses out on all that love and happiness over something so totally irrelevant to the mother-daughter relationship.

Also moved by that article. Wonderful :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And shout out to Donna for this message:

“love and celebrate yourself, and if others agree that’s just a bonus”

Something I know I need to work on at least, even if not in the context she is talking about!

@siand So true. Parents put so much shit on their kids just because they (the parents) cannot cope.
Your post reminded me of this:

It’s almost pride month in the US.
Is pride month in June worldwide? Or is it an American holiday?

Happy pride month yall.

I’m non-binary man and I’m proud to be like that. I was raised with gender stereotypes and as well gender construction. From my puberty until now I fight with homophobia and transphobia. Because I know hate isn’t nice.
At the end, we’re all people and we can be friends, no matter who we are, white or black, trans or cis, gay or straight, addicted or not… :busts_in_silhouette::heart::sparkles:

Happy Pride! Barrack Obama pronounced June Pride Month in 2011. Before that Pride was celebrated around June 28th, to commemorate the Stonewall Riots in 1969 which can be seen as the start of the modern LGBTQI+ emancipation and liberation movement.

Pride Month is now an event in many countries around the world, including mine. Rather oddly my hometown has it’s own Pride in August, a party that doesn’t originate in political activism but instead was instigated (and is perpetuated) by Gay Business here. Every year there is lots of discussion surrounding Pride here. Fact is that it’s a huge and happy party.

The whole modern LGBTQI+ movement was begun by the most downtrodden and despised minorities. Not by settled closeted white gay men, but instead by young working class gay folks, and especially by black trans women and men. Forever grateful for their struggle. Here’s two of the most influential: Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson.

“We love being gay and we find a lot of joy in it. If the world is gonna change we think it needs to, it’s very important that our revolution is based on joy.”

Silk Chifon

Sun down and I’m feeling lifted
Downtown, cherry lipstick
Watch her silk dress dancing in the wind
Watch it brush against her skin
Makes me wanna try her on

Like, life’s so fun, life’s so fun
Got my mini skirt and my rollerblades on
Bag on my side 'cause I’m out 'til dawn
Keeping it light like silk chiffon
Life’s so fun, life’s so fun
Don’t need to worry about no one
She said I got her if I want
She’s so soft like silk chiffon

Silk chiffon
That’s how it feels, oh, when she’s on me
Silk chiffon
That’s how it feels, oh, when she’s on me

I’m high and I’m feeling anxious
Inside of the CVS
When she turns 'round halfway down the aisle
With that ‘you’re on camera’ smile
Like she wants to try me on

And life’s so fun, life’s so fun
Got my mini skirt and my rollerblades on
Bag on my side 'cause I’m out 'til dawn
Keeping it light like silk chiffon
Life’s so fun, life’s so fun
Don’t need to worry about no one
She said that I got her if I want
She’s so soft like silk chiffon

Silk chiffon
That’s how it feels, oh, when she’s on me
Silk chiffon
That’s how it feels, oh, when she’s on me

It feels good to me, it feels good to me
Oh, why wouldn’t it be? Oh, why wouldn’t it be?
It feels good to me, it feels good to me
Oh, why wouldn’t it be? Oh, why wouldn’t it be?
She’s so soft like silk chiffon

Silk chiffon
That’s how it feels, oh, when she’s on me
