Welcome to the forum, John.

Straight of the bat.. id strongy suggest to read around here. Plenty of wisdom in these threads and active members. Here is a thread that should be pinned to the home page for you though here is the link anyway. Id suggest to start with this. Then use the search bar to look for other topics and interests. The daily checkin thread is great too.

Welcome @FookAlcohol97 ! Really glad you’re here! Just seconding what @Jaybeeem said–there is a ton of knowledge here. And I found that reading widely here, especially when I was having cravings, really helped me stay sober.

You can do this!!

Welcome to a wonderful sober community with people from all over the world with different addictive behaviors.

My DOC (drug of choice) was alcohol and weed. I got sober after the consequences of my drinking became too much after 20years of progressive addiction. I got sober with the help of a free program online by Annie Grace called the alcohol experiment

THE ALCOHOL EXPERIMENT - This Naked Mind https://share.google/ZYMncgvRwQm87Rb5y

It educates you and helped me get curious about why im leaning on alcohol or escaping. I started there found this place and visited and engaged daily and went to alcoholics anonymous and followed their guidance.

Theres many different ways to find support thru breaking the addiction. Theres no one size fits all.

What has brought you to our corner of tge internet?

First off welcome. There are different ways to get sober. I use AA as my program and it has been life changing. Meetings help you build a real life network of sober folks who are all trying to help you. There are other programs like smart recovery that have been helpful for people too, but I honestly don’t know much about them. As some people said definitely talk to someone before you want to drink. I called people many times early on when I wanted to drink and it almost always faded by the time the conversation was over. Find things to occupy your time that are good. Dive into productive hobbies, service work, etc. It all helps. Wishing you the best

My advice is to live the advice of those who have long term sobriety. Not just listen and nod, not just try it until it’sinconvenient, but live it, everyday from here on out.

Sobriety is inconvenient, it is uncomfortable and at times, it is painful. At times, sobriety will make you boring, it will make you uninteresting, it will make you forgotten, but in the end, it will make you respected, it will make you influential, it will make you inspirational.

If that sounds like a challenge you’re willing to take, you need to live the advice given.
