So It’s been 22 days.After the initial week and getting over my hangover I felt great for the next two weeks…now I have noticed a lingering small migraine for 2 to 3 days and chest pain with alot of moodiness.My head is very tender as well and sometimes I notice my hands shake a little bit. A little bit of dizziness as well
How is this possible?I went 2 weeks with none of this
Is this normal?
I am definitely no expert but I have read somewhere that alcohol affects our brain chemistry ? Sounds like the brain takes longer to adjust. This could explain the dull aches and shakes ? At the moment I’m going through insomnia and it sucks !
@Restlesssoul
I’m not sure how old you are, but being that these things are happening for the first time at 22 days sober, it might be a good idea to see your doctor just to be on the safe side. I’ve been a nurse for 13 yrs and although we all have different physical reactions with detox, chest pain and dizziness at 22 days is something that needs to be checked out. It could be something very easy to fix. Better to be checked out and be wrong than not and it be something serious.
@MicheleH thank you !
Absolutely!!! I’m glad you posted and awesome job on 22+ days! !
@MicheleH thanks!it’s been interesting. I wonder though if I just need to be mindful of my diet.
I’m prone to migraines, I used to have them chronically and it’s been about a year and a half since I had them. That whole year I was constantly working out
I haven’t worked out since I quit.Im not really sure why either
@Restlesssoul
You should definitely get checked out, have your blood work done, maybe a stress test (again, depending on your age) and definitely get back into the gym. Even if you’re not motivated right now, which is very common at first, don’t beat yourself up over it. I have days I don’t want to go so I put my gym clothes on anyway, some times I’m literally laying around in my gym clothes. …lol…but most of the time since I already have my gym stuff on, ill end up going to the gym or walking. Something else I have discovered is I was taking in too much sugar and just plan crap in my diet so I started slowly cutting out sugars and processed foods and my energy levels have gone through the roof. Migraines have been connected to diet and gluten. May be something to look into. Take it slow and don’t overwhelm yourself too much this early in sobriety. I hope you get a clean bill of health!
@MicheleH I’ll have to try that.Ive fallen into a funk.The times I would be dealing with things like stress or emotions by drinking I go buy fast food instead.
I’ll look into seeing my doctor.thanks for the advice!
Good! You are totally worth a good life with good health. It will come, the longer you stay sober, and if there are hiccups, which there will be, we have each other and sobriety to hold us together…
@Restlesssoul it’s so great to see you’ve made it this far. Congrats on all your hard work! You may be experiencing the second stage of alcohol withdrawal known as PAWS which is Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. It can affect each person differently depending on how long, how often and what was abused but this stage may last for months or up to a year or more. But don’t be discouraged, you’re going to have awesome days and hopefully minimal not so good days but continue being strong! One day at a time.
@Anthony thank you!today wasn’t so bad, Thursday I’m getting a massage hopefully that will help me out some.
I’ve also been thinking of going to the gym again and maybe trying the sauna out for once lol
