Trying to stay busy, but doing my normal responsibilities are a trigger as I got myself used to drinking while doing yard work, housework etc. Still have to get stuff done . If housework piles up that creates another overwhelming feeling and can trigger drinking. No money to hire out for my heavy load of chores. Any advice?

Triggers are overcome by facing them and working through them. With all the tools we gathered. Coming here and talking about it is one such tool. 6+ years ago everything was a trigger for me. Now there’s hardly any left, only the most rare ones may still come up at some time. And I will deal with them when they arrive. One day and one trigger at a time friend. You can do this. Success. And welcome to TS!

Hi @Babbles and welcome to the most awesome recovery app in the history of recovery apps 😁

Back when I first got sober in 2004, the first thing I noticed was there seemed to be advertisements of alcohol everywhere ☹
Nothing had changed except for my perception😀 and the desire, no need to never drink alcohol again.

As @Mno said the only way to deal with triggers, you can’t avoid, is to work through them.
It gives you a chance to exercise the lessons learned from your recovery program and to use the tools you’ve built up, just for such occasions.

That is provided you have a recovery program!
I got sober through AA and its kept me sober ever since.
Back then f2f AA meetings was about the only flavour on offer, today there are plenty of alternatives (SMART, Dharma etc) and online meetings as well as f2f.

You didn’t say if you have a program, if not start one now and learn the lessons and build up a tool kit.

Here’s a link to get you started 😁

> There are so many helpful resources available to us on our sober journeys. I wanted to share this list for those who are interested in non traditional resources. Please note: I created this thread with alcohol recovery in mind and it is U.S. based as well. As a straight white past middle age woman (SassyRocks), it is based on what resonated and helped me in my journey. Over time, I have added in resources for some other addictions (found at the end of this post), but it is heavy with resources …

Stay strong, stay safe and above all else stay sober.

Thanks you guys for the welcome and the words of advice and encouragement. I have tried AA in the past and it just wasn’t for me. Looking at the SMART recommendation

something came to my mind when reading this - could you replace the drink with something else? i start saying a prayer right away “_please be removing this feeling from me and continue to be keeping me from feeling this way, amen._”

that’s always worked for me my friend

welcome to TS 🙂

Make a list. Breaking down the jobs into small sections. Then tick off each one as it’s done
