Running in Recovery in 2024-2026

Welcome back!!

It is so crazy how one run can be absolute trash and the next amazing. Runna wanted an easy run but when I do easy runs I cover my watch and just run. This felt good. It did get hard towards the end but it was still a feel good run

I’m having this moment with my watch more often, feeling like it makes me focus on the wrong thing, resulting in reduced enjoyment or created anxiety.

Thinking of things like:

  • Rearrange stats on live activity so I don’t focus on the wrong data (like heart rate, of course it’s up, you’re moving, dummy)
  • Decrease screen timeout or go dark during activity
  • Wear something over it, this is already harder with it being pre-heating season in AZ though.

I don’t generally get too wrapped up in my watch during the run unless it’s an interval/ pace driven run. I hardly even look at it during easy / long runs.

I do however get wrapped up in the stats afterward lol

Saturday i drove to our closest little forest cause I felt in need to run between trees and lots of green. It was great. I definitely gonna do it from time to time. Did nice 5+ km in easy tempo, just enjoying the nature around me.

Monday intervals. I kind of like them but I’m the most happy when it’s done

That looks like a beautiful place to run!

Tried to do my run this morning and tripped on some uprooted concrete. It happened before the first mile was done. I tried to keep going but my palms were just pulsing from the impact. Got a skinned knee too  It is what it is. There is always another run

Skipped my race due to rain. It was downpouring and im too clumsy. Ran 40min straight on the tread. Tread which said 8:34 pace but garmin said 9:20. Lies. All i know is i was lying to myself to keep moving after the 2nd mile. Did 4.25mi straight

Will try to work up my endurance to truly run a 10k straight in may! Starting the plan again

So many intervals! I like this style of interval run though cause I like my walk breaks

Just 2 walk breaks today. :confetti_ball: It was so very humid this morning and I am not use to that! The little speed up blip was me crossing a road

It’s early in my season but my pace is hurting badly this year. I’m not getting any younger, but damn I hope I didn’t just fall off the age cliff

I’ve just accepted my slower pace and am appreciating that I’m still able to run. It’s a hard mental battle though and I don’t win everyday. Sometimes I get so down about my pace. One of my biggest goals was to hit a sub 30 5K and I was so very close 2 years ago and now my fastest 5k is 32 mins.

Im impressed with your consistent pace. Thats a straight line idk how you do it

I ran without music today. I find that my pace stays much more consistent without the beat of music. I haven’t committed to always going without music but I am thinking of doing more of my runs that way.

Wow am i proud of myself this morning. Ran 5.5mi straight in the wild and it felt good. I probably could have eeked out a 10k but wanted to walk. Tried to keep my pace between 8:45 and 9:00. It was not consistent but ballpark! My legs did get heavy around mile 4. Anybody have any tips for when that happens?

Inspired by ya’ll

I’ve recently started using salt tablets and they have really helped with soreness/heavy legs

I hear you on the data anxiety. It’s a real mood killer when you’re constantly checking your wrist instead of just enjoying the movement.

Going dark or “stealth mode” during the run is probably the move. It lets the watch do its job in the background while you focus on how your body actually feels. Good luck with that AZ heat, that’s a whole other challenge on its own.
