Hey everyone
I was just wondering if anyone else has any secondary goals besides the big one being sober and clean? Mine has been quitting energy drinks and tobacco. Here is my streak so far! I’d love to hear your guys achievements or goals!
@Steve92 wow. That is impressive. As I quit drinking I found myself more reliant on other little guilty pleasures, like energy drinks. I quit smoking as soon as I quit drinking (thats easy in November in Iowa) but picked up ocassionally chewing tobacco, for the burn. Reduced my use of 5 hour energy but have required a monster or red bull (always sugar free) to stay awake and functional after 8 p.m. Maybe I will take on the secondary goals aspect of life in due time, I am not yet ready for that. Congrats on your strength and resolve though.
My doctor told me I shouldn’t drink energy drinks anymore because I was drinking 5-6 monsters and red bulls DAILY because I worked as a sous chef at a casino steakhouse. I may have well been doing cocaine lmao. As far as tobacco it’s been kind of rough I wanted to try the whole vaping thing but I think that’s kind of cheating… iv been drinking black tea with sugar and milk throughout the day and it keeps me steady and it’s a lot healthier for you @Sober
My kids were complaining that I’m having an energy drink or two every day (still feeling lethargic coming up to 40 days without alcohol).
I think I’ll follow your lead Steve - it’s bad stuff, time to make this a secondary goal!
Energy drinks?! Ha! Good for you and love this post!
Caffeine- I think I’ll start tomorrow…
I’ve been wanting to for a while. I just wanna be free of all stimulants
Be careful cutting the caffeine. If you do it cold turkey you will get a headache worse than any hangover. I’ve found it best to do it by slowly cutting down. I used to down diet cokes all day long. Now I’m at just one coffee in the morning. But when I first cut it out completely it felt like my brain weighed 10x more and kept smashing against my skull.
Hahahaha I’m sorry, I don’t mean to laugh but I gave a very vivid imagination and that word picture was very descriptive and painted quite a comical image in my head.
I know those headaches. I’ve done juice fasts and on day 2-4 that is exactly what it feels like as all your toxins purge from your cells and swim to your brain.
I will wean myself off… thank you ️
Vaping is the only thing that helped me quit smoking, and I tried almost everything. I thought everyone that did it looked stupid, but I was born with asthma, and smoked for almost 20 years. I’ve coughed so hard I literally passed out a few times, so I was willing to try it. Still use the vape a few times a day, but I’m down to 0 mg of nicotine. Although these past few days of not drinking, I have bummed a few smokes from coworkers. Apparently in AA they call this “cross addiction”. Trading one for another.
I’m telling u from my experience. At first it’s gonna suck not having those drinks but after its all out of your system and you switch to tea or something else healthier, your going to have natural energy and you will find yourself going back to natural sleep patterns. Like I go to bed and wake up at almost the same time every day now it’s amazing haha Goodluck brotha!
Do you drink tea? I just assume you do because “nature hippy” haha if u do what kinds???
@BigRich yes I understand vaping has helped a lot of people stop smoking. My best friend uses the vape now all the time instead of smoking real cigs. And I can tell you from my experience in outpatient, your gonna crave real cigarettes more now because they do release a small amount of dopamine into the system and some people will even chain smoke in early recovery to get that “high” it sucks because your brain is just craving any damn thing to get it altered but we have to try to ignore that sensation from our “addict brain”
Quitting smoking is top of my list, its just as hard or harder as drinking. Gona try to be more active instead of a couch potato! Hang in there it’s more than tuff physically but mentally
I waited for a year sober when I stopped smoking. 60 a day guy. I was going to the gym regularly and I found it difficult to work out and keep smoking so the gym won lol. I drink green tea today
Lol. I drink (drank) three things; coffee, alcohol, and water, in that order.
I am trying to slowly drink to tea and have all the fancy loose leaf ones and a cute little fancy pot and cup that steeps them. They honestly taste better and I feel like I’m more of a hippy for doing it that way… cause truth be told, despite screen name, I’m really not THAT much of a hippy lol
I’ve got a list going. It’s basically a huge list of things I couldn’t do while drunk. Spartan race. Violin classes. Dance classes. Warrior dash. It’s sort of my 2017 bucket list.
But on anew everyday level, I’m cutting caffeine and lowering my carb intake as well.
I love that you use sobertime. It’s my lifeline
I would love to stop my addiction of Pepsi Max, I probably drink about 4/5 cans a day and always the first thing I have when waking up. I normally drink them in work. One step at a time for me though, I don’t want to have a go at everything and fail it all. However, I have replaced alcohol for one particular drink in the evening, can you guess what it is?
Hot Chocolate? Sleepy Time tea? Bovril?
No, Peppermint Tea, you’re going to have to tell us…
Lmfao…I’m lol, good one man
I think I’m just going to keep you guessing
Zzquil? 5 hour energy pm? Lolol am I close
