Is it weird to say my brain works slower now after substance abuse has stopped? Sometimes I have a lot of difficulty piecing things together. I myself feel slow and some days I feel like I may stand out from the crowd when I do.
Not uncommon. For the first two weeks sober from drinking, I couldn’t hardly spell simple words.
It’s post acute withdrawl syndrom (PAWS) . Some can last up to a year. Generally no more than 6 months though.
What i know and learned is that longer u stay sober and clean the better you brain will be . To read alot is a Great helper to that . And sleep, normal sleep is a Great way as well. IT will slowly fix your brain. Hope u understand what im saying
I noticed a lot of changes after I quit. Basically the way I look at it is you may seem slow to yourself speaking, processing etc however its because your sober. Ever think maybe the alcohol made it so you were processing slow but your just realizing how slow it really made you because your heads clearing.
I notice it with my eyes a lot
About 2 days into sobriety I realize my eyes are shit I can’t see at all. By 7-10 days I can look in the mirror and physically see clearer.
So just wait and try to notice the sharpness coming back after a wk, two wks in. I usually notice more energy as well, thus I think more
Hi @Ash its been a while how are you doing. Hope you are well xx
Yes I do and I do agree with the reading part. I do read as much recovery material as I can
The big book i highly recomend:) it that is the answer
I agree. I would be incomplete without it and my sponsor.
I had the same problem. I believe its our brain trying to heal. Itll be okay it gets better
As Long as we are willing !!! We do got a choice .
I have been sober for 44 days and recently in the past week or less I started having very vivid dreams and experiencing memory and processing problems. I think its just my brain going hay wire because of sobriety and will eventually go back to normal. It really amazes me of the changes I am going through. I was a binge drinker. I thought only people that drink all the time would experience these kinds of changes. Real wake up call as to how powerful my addiction can be over me.
@Ash really like what you said. Never looked at it that way. You could be on to something there.
