Day 1210: Sore from a 3 hour belt test last night. I am now one belt closer, and one belt away from Black Belt. It’s a good kinda pain. Waiting for my bride to get ready so we can have a rare date of a matinee movie and an early dinner. Sunny and 77 F. Life is good.

That’s part of why I tried to join the Navy, why I was drawn to it. Love the sea. To be able to go see tons of places and do it on a boat, pretty cool.
Kinda glad it didn’t work out though, given that a few people I know who were in just wanted to get out the whole time. Like any job, I figure that depends on the person and their specific duties, though.
I also wasn’t aware of the gnarly drinking culture. I had literally just started taking not drinking seriously (2012), the whole reason I had tried getting sober to begin with was to get my shit together so I could join. I wouldn’t be surprised if my drinking drove me into the ground, had I gotten in. Wasn’t nearly strong enough yet to resist pressure to drink/urges…although it’s fun to think about how wildly different my life would have been, good or bad.

We do long line. We threw some gear that day. We use rod and reel while it soaked. We had one really good set that day.
I recently launched my YouTube channel. Its something I always talked about doing as a drunk. In recovery. I am doing it.
I spend my beer money on camera gear now. 
Im working on the video from this trip now. I hope to get it done today.
There are good videos of us rod and reel fishing, and some longlining for sablefish/black cod on there and crabbing.

Fisherman are drinkers too. Its been tricky, but I am really happy I have been able to stay sober. I considered not crabbing last year because I had failed at making it all the way through a season. Year before last I started sober, but ended on a horrible relapse.
I made it! This year is my second sober season.

Sober Saturday Selfie… Ha! Its amazing how I look the same in every picture! What you can’t see, because its raining out, is that my two wood ducks just found their way back to my pond today. This means Spring is really here. Although now that I say this… I also had two racoons, two owls, two hawks, and two cardinals in the past two days…plus rain. Quick build an ark!

Nice sober Saturday. I hit nine months today officially on the app! I have my older kids in town. Enjoyed talking about an early college program with my oldest daughter, she got accepted to a high school/community college hybrid program that allows her to get a 2 year degree as part of her high school studies. Then played some monopoly on PlayStation with the family. It has been a great day!
