How did your run go today?

I punked out and made an excuse and didn’t go. She messaged last night in the same group chat with the other lady and I made a comment about how they were just gonna leave me again with a sad face and she said it will just be like a “meet in the parking lot and then we won’t see each other again. “ So with that comment I wasn’t feeling great about the meet up to start with.

I wouldn’t have gone either. It sounds like you expressed the type of run that you were looking for and that wasn’t it. Hopefully you can find some running buddies that are looking for that type of run. If you want to meet up with those ladies you could always ask to meet for coffee or something. If that doesn’t work out they aren’t your people but you will find your people.

I am catching up here…..I just want to say Don’t Go…. please don’t let others push you away.. there are so many god believing and not god believing who value your input here.

I personally have not blocked any threads or I guess the term is mute here but there are a few topics i ignore and if I do read something irritating I hop over to another topic. So many topics here do not incorporate religious content… Memes, pets, cooking and gardening.. are just a few.

Sorry just felt the need to put my two cents in.. as for the penny for your thoughts will no longer be relevant as US are phasing them out…

Hi everyone. How are you all today?

I’ve just walked through the town and noticed people visiting their places of worship. Some coming out of church, but more going into pubs.

I would normally go to ‘my church’ (The King’s Head) around 10 am, where I and other regulars would be welcomed with open arms. It didn’t take much encouragement to stay there all day.

I’ve escaped from that existence now. There is so much more to life.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

Col, I am so happy for you that you can spend your sundays doing things you love to do instead of hanging around and getting drunk.

Today I am working on our costumes for a venice masks festival next weekend.

My daughter is going as a phoenix, my costume is seen as swan or angel. (I prefer swan, obviously.)

Hi guys.

I was wondering what your general consensus was on visiting places of worship whilst on vacation?

I’m as atheist as they come and I often joke about turning to dust the second I step foot into a church or cathedral or mosque, but I’ve visited many places with my partner over the years and will be visiting what is generally known as the largest gothic cathedral in Europe when we take a city break to Seville in a few weeks’ time. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited was La Segrada Familia in Barcelona.

I’m purely there for the history, architecture and art whilst my partner is predominantly there for the art as she loves to paint.

So, do you guys visit them and if so, why?

Phil, the houses of worship that I have visited over the decades usually give me a sense of connection. In many instances, the art and music that is housed and practiced in these places are beautiful of themselves.

One of the recent and most different churches I visited were the so-called painted monasteries in Romania. These places were built and decorated as much for political control of the populace as for the expression of faith. Funded by princes who sought to smooth a path to heaven for themselves, the places are covered inside and out with illustrations of battles, lives of the saints, kings, and their pantheon of gods.

Organized religion has played perhaps the greatest role in determining the course of human history, whether it just was to justify greed and domination or the direct conversion (by the sword or by love) of peoples who were perfectly happy with their own beliefs. The places left behind, and still being built today, by those movements, are often as much of historical interest as spiritual, for me.

I like architecture and history. Plenty of churches, mosques, synagogues, and other temples are interesting and beautiful buildings. So I visit them. Imho that has nothing to do with the reason they were built and are used for.

That’s one. Another thing is that these buildings are (also) meant as community centers. People come together there. Which is something different from worshipping some deity I don’t believe in.

And thirdly I like the calm, the atmosphere in many of these places (when there’s no service happening). Oude Kerk and the Portuguese Synagoge in my home town are both buildings I love to visit and spend time in.

I have always loved the architecture of places of worship, primarily churches and mosques. My favorite building in my city is an old Spanish mission, San Xavier del Bac.

I also love this one which is downtown (San Xavier is on the outskirts of town). Catedral San Augustín (not my pic, but all the rest are). It’s the church itself but also a massive complex. I’ve actually been to a service here. I’m adamantly non-religious but it was/is still interesting. My Mom is very religious and was visiting at Easter, so this is where I took her.

Lastly…visited Iceland a decade ago, pretty sure most of my pics were of churches. Bunch of Lutherans over there. Quaint, simple churches…other than Hallgrímskirkja, the last one, in Reykjavík. Far from quaint and probably one of my favorite structures on earth.

EDIT: the wiki photo of Hallgrímskirkja is too good to not include. So, adding one more photo that isn’t my own.

It sounds to me like your therapist is asking you to do what you haven’t done before in order to get what you haven’t got. She is saying, in part, your way is not working. Try a different path and see where it leads. Have trust that she wants the best for you.

Day 107 smoke free
Day 86 binge eating free
Day 41 snacking free

I am so relieved I am free of binge eating and snacking. I have almost never any cravings, I can eat „normal“ proper meals and give my body what it needs. I can stop eating when I am satisfied. The food noise stopped (I never would have thought that could be possible for me).

I am so very grateful for this community.

Have a peaceful day everyone! :purple_heart:

@Runningfree Jen, I am so sorry how you felt. I hate that they made you feel excluded. They should be grateful to run with you. I hope you find a runner companion who is just right for you!

Hey guys :waving_hand:Checking in

Update on the thing with running friend. So I talked to a different friend about it and she said she was taught something called “the sandwich method” when talking about things that bother you with another person. Basically you say something you like about the person and then say what is bothering you and the follow with a positive thing. So I typed out a text with this in mind. I told her how much I enjoy running together and I enjoy the conversation that we have when we run and then I told her how my feelings were hurt and followed it with saying I’m more than happy to cheer her on but my conversational pace will never be the pace she was running that day. Long story short we talked it through and have decided to do the warmups together or just meet in the parking lot if our runs are completely different. It’s nice that we have that worked out cause avoiding the trail wasn’t what I really wanted to do. I normally run the neighborhoods but with that I deal with traffic and dogs so I really enjoy doing my long runs over there.

I’ve had a good few days off from work and am not looking forward to going back tomorrow  It feels like it’s always one thing or another with my job. I convinced management to rotate an Am person to help us close and we have been doing that for a month. It has been working really good. Now the deadline to get the other licensing has come and we have 2 techs that are having issues and haven’t been able to abtain the required license. Upper management wanted to fire them :woman_facepalming:t2: My boss convinced them to change their job duties for now but they can’t code orders anymore until they get the new license approved. It’s literally like a step forward and then backwards with them. Corporate merica :roll_eyes:

I plan to enjoy my last day off before my 6 on. I got my lego portrait I’m working on and some Bridgerton episodes to watch and a cycle class this evening

Have a great monday :black_heart:
