Song Hit Me Hard Today

Hey everyone — just wanted to share something that’s been sitting with me all morning.

The song “Running” by NF really hit me this morning.

It isn’t exactly written about drinking, but I connected with it on a personal level. The idea of finally walking away from something that’s been a part of you for so long — even though it’s been slowly tearing you down — felt way too familiar.

For me, that thing is alcohol.

I’ve told myself for too long that I’ll “get it under control” or “cut back,” but the truth is, I’ve just been stuck — scared to fully let go of something that’s been my escape, my habit, my crutch.

But now I’m done running with it… and finally starting to run from it.

This song helped me sit with all of that today — the grief, the relief, the fear, and the hope. If anyone else connects to music during recovery, I’d love to hear what songs have helped you along the way.

For anyone that would like to hear it, here is the :link:

Thanks for sharing, it’s powerful song forsure. Music has always been my outlet. I do not play an instrument but listen to different types of music. Music helps my soul heal..
I am also a alcholic and I promise you sobriety is a hard journey but so worth it.

Thanks so much — that really means a lot. Music’s always helped me process stuff too, and that song just hit at the right time.

I know the road’s gonna be tough, but hearing from people like you makes it feel a lot more possible. One day at a time.

Music is the greatest! And Joe Walsh has been a tremendous inspiration to me. He even wrote a song called, “one day at a time.” he speaks candidly about his addictions, and when I was using music was like some sort of inspiration for that. And he reminds us, the ones that kept going, are dead….

The whole rockstar image of excessive drugs and alcohol and not phasing people, that’s a lie. In the early 20s, i’m sure it was done recreationally. But eventually, they either quit, or die. Thank you for your post.

You can even google the parts of his speech at the alcoholics anonymous anniversary convention in Ohio. He starts out by saying, “ look, some of you may be sober for a few hours, some of you, a few decades. But either way, if you’re here, you’ve already had all the fun you’re gonna have with alcohol.” Meaning, now you’re just chasing your tail.
