Staying sober having a hard time

Have been alcohol free for 12 days. Today is the first day I will be around alcohol and other people drinking since I have stopped. The cravings are bad today just thinking about it. I am scared I might mess up. Any suggestions on what to do to make it easier?

Plan ahead and go prepared. Before you leave think of or write down 5 things you hate about drinking and yourself when you’re drinking. Then just make sure you have something to drink while you’re there be it a V8, juice, Red Bull, CAFE! Maybe that will help you feel like you have something “better” then just boring water LOL. Maybe don’t stay as long? I’m lucky because my family doesn’t drink it the holidays. It’s when I get home after that it’s difficult for me. Changing routine daily.

I stocked up on martenellis sparkling cider. The family can have their champagne and I wont stick out like a sore thumb and there’s less likely to be a chance of someone offering you a drink because it looks the same. Plus I’ve always liked the cider more than the champagne. Just bring your own bottle or ask the host to maybe pick up one.

I’m 11 days sober… everyone around me will be drinking today as well. What I’m doing is taking my favorite soda. It comes in can form so I’ll be walking around with my inca kola(Peruvian soda).

Do you have to go? It’s really hard to be in those situations early days…
