I believe you can still be happy if you don’t use drugs and alcohol.
It involves getting out and staying active and seeing people. The environment you are in heals you slowly as long as you stay away from people, places, and things.

Hi please don’t think I’m being patronising I just have a sarcastic sense of humor and a helpful heart. I think I know where your coming from with your message but if we get out, get active and meet people it’s going to be difficult to stay away from people, places and things so let me just share what I’ve learnt after 6 years of sobriety.
People, places and things have never been the problem in fact it’s never been an outside problem it’s in inside problem. Many years ago I moved hundreds of miles to a place where no one knew me for a fresh start in life, about 2 weeks later I became the local drug dealer, inside problem. Now if I stood in a club with free alcohol and unlimited drugs I would not be tempted, I would not feel any sense of loss only a gratitude for what I now have in my life and soul and I wouldn’t judge others ( maybe a little as in not perfect), they make their choices and we make ours, Inside solution no outside problem.
